TO ENSURE THAT ALL CHILDREN IN MECKLENBURG COUNTY HAVE ACCESS TO AN EXCELLENT PUBLIC EDUCATION THAT RESULTS IN THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCES NECESSARY TO LEAD PRODUCTIVE, SUCCESSFUL LIVES.

MECKEDS CAREER PATHWAYS INITIATIVE SERVED OVER 2,000 STUDENTS IN FOUR CHARLOTTE-MECKLENBURG TITLE I HIGH SCHOOLS WITH CAREER AND COLLEGE READINESS SERVICES. ADDITIONALLY, 160 STUDENTS WITH SIGNIFICANT BARRIERS TO SUCCESS (40 AT EACH SCHOOL) WERE PROVIDED WORK-BASED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND INTENSIVE SUPPORT THAT INCLUDED CAREER TRAINING, INTERNSHIP PLACEMENT, MENTORING, SUPPORTIVE SERVICES AND COACHING. MECKEDS OUT OF SCHOOL TIME INITIATIVE, CHARLOTTE NEXT, CONTINUED TO OPEN ACCESS TO HIGH QUALITY EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAMS. THE LOCATOR, WHICH IS DESIGNED TO HELP PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS FIND ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN ACROSS THE CITY, CONTINUES TO BE UTILIZED BY FAMILIES. SINCE IT WAS LAUNCHED IN EARLY 2017, LOCATOR HAS RECEIVED OVER 15,000 ONLINE VISITORS AND TODAY IS PROFILING OVER 578 DIFFERENT ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS! ADDITIONALLY, MECKED HAS FUNDED SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAMS SUPPORTING SEVEN HIGH-NEED CMS MIDDLE SCHOOLS, SERVING OVER 120 STUDENTS. STUDENTS RECEIVED A MINIMUM OF 5 WEEKS OF FULL-TIME PROGRAMMING FOCUSED ON SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING AND STEM RELATED TOPICS. MECKED ALSO HOSTED A WEEKLY RADIO SHOW LETS REINVENT SCHOOL TO ASSIST IN SPOTLIGHTING CRITICAL ISSUES RELATED TO EDUCATION AND YOUNG PEOPLES PREPARATION FOR SUCCESS.
