REALTORS CARE DAY IS AN ANNUAL COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT COORDINATED BY THE FOUNDATION WHERE MORE THAN 400 REALTOR VOLUNTEERS WORKED TO PROVIDE CRITICAL HOME REPAIRS FOR 15 HOMES IN MECKLENBURG, IREDELL AND HAYWOOD COUNTIES ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2021. INCLUDED IN THE PROJECT WERE REPAIRS MADE TO TWO TRANSITIONAL LIVING HOMES FOR HOUSING INSECURE CLIENTS. IN ADDITION, TWO SEPARATE FOOD DRIVES WERE HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE PROJECT WITH ALMOST 6,000 LBS OF FOOD COLLECTED FOR FOOD PANTRIES. IN SELECTING WORK SITES, THE FOUNDATION WORKS WITH LOCAL HOUSING PARTNERS TO IDENTIFY ELIGIBLE HOMEOWNERS WHO THEN GO THROUGH A DETAILED APPLICATION AND VERIFICATION PROCESS. SINCE ITS INCEPTION TWELVE YEARS AGO, THIS PROJECT HAS ASSISTED 285 FAMILIES AND NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS.
THE FOUNDATION CONTRIBUTED TO LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WHOSE PURPOSE IS ADDRESSING UNMET HOUSING NEEDS AND AFFORDABLE WORKFORCE HOUSING NEEDS IN THE GREATER CHARLOTTE AREA AND HAYWOOD COUNTY THROUGH ITS TWO GRANT PROGRAMS. 1) HABITAT SUPPORT PROGRAM ($21,200)- SEVEN REGIONAL AREA HABITAT FOR HUMANITY ORGANIZATIONS WERE GRANTED RESTRICTED PROGRAMMING SUPPORT TO CONTINUE THEIR WORK ON BEHALF OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING. 2) COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM ($57,550) - 21 NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WERE GRANTED RESTRICTED PROGRAMMING SUPPORT TO ADDRESS UNMET HOUSING NEEDS ACROSS A THREE-COUNTY SERVICE AREA. IN ADDITION TO THE GRANT FUNDING, THE FOUNDATION HONORS AN INDIVIDUAL, PROJECT OR ORGANIZATION THROUGH ITS ANNUAL HUMANITARIAN AWARD ($5,000); AS PART OF THAT HONOR, THE RECIPIENT IS ASKED TO DESIGNATE A NONPROFIT TO RECEIVE A CONTRIBUTION ON THEIR BEHALF. IN 2021, THE DESIGNATED ORGANIZATION THAT RECEIVED FUNDING AS A RESULT OF THE HUMANITARIAN AWARD WAS FIFTH STREET MINISTRIES. IN 2019, THE FOUNDATION LAUNCHED THE YOUTH EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE AWARD (YES) TO HONOR EXTRAORDINARY YOUTH FOR THEIR CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY. IN 2021, THE CHOSEN RECIPIENT WAS RECOGNIZED FOR FOUNDING A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION (XCELERATE NC) TO ADDRESS EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF STUDENTS WHO WER BEING SEVERLY IMPACTED AROUND THE WORLD AND IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY; THE RECIPIENT RECEIVED A $500 DONATION.
STRIDES FOR SHELTER 5K RUN/WALK WHICH IS PRESENTED BY THE CANOPY HOUSING FOUNDATION ANNUALLY IS DEDICATED TO MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE LOCAL HOMELESS COMMUNITY. TO DATE, THE RACE HAS GENERATED OVER $92,000 THAT HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE COMMUNITY FOR HOMELESS INITIATIVES. PROCEEDS FROM THE 2021 RACE SERVED TO BENEFIT HOPE HOUSE FOUNDATION. THE HOPE HOUSE FOUNDATION'S MISSION IS TO PROVIDE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO WOMEN AND CHILDREN EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS. THE HOPE HOUSE FOUNDATION USED THE GRANT PROCEEDS TO COMPLETE RENOVATION OF THE GARAGE AREA TO CREATE A DEDICATED PLAY AND LEARNING SPACE THAT CULTIVATES RESILIENCE AND SECURITY IN CHILDREN EXPERIENCING FAMILY HOMELESSNESS.
THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES VARIOUS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. THE WORKFORCE HOUSING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM EDUCATES REALTORS TO WORK WITH FIRST-TIME HOME BUYERS AND CLIENTS PURCHASING IN THE AFFORDABLE PRICE RANGE (UP TO 80% OF MEDIAN INCOME) AND HELPS THE PUBLIC MORE READILY IDENTIFY REALTORS WHO HAVE ACQUIRED THE EDUCATION AND SKILLS TO CONDUCT REAL ESTATE TRANSACTIONS IN THE WORKFORCE-HOUSING MARKET.
