CHARLOTTE CENTER FOR LEGAL ADVOCACY (CCLA) PROVIDES LEGAL ASSISTANCE IN CIVIL MATTERS TO LOW-INCOME PERSONS IN THE CHARLOTTE AREA AND WEST-CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA. OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE A FULL MEASURE OF JUSTICE FOR THOSE IN NEED.

FAMILY SUPPORT AND HEALTH CARE PROGRAMDURING FY 2021 THIS PROGRAM MADE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF LOW-INCOME CLIENTS. THE PROGRAM SERVED 364 CLIENTS WITH MEDICAID AND HEALTHCARE ACCESS RELATED MATTERS AND 483 CLIENTS WITH SOCIAL SECURITY AND OTHER PUBLIC BENEFITS MATTERS. THE PROGRAM OBTAINED OR PRESERVED MEDICAID, SOCIAL SECURITY, SSI, OR FOOD STAMP BENEFITS FOR A TOTAL OUTCOME VALUE OF $8,451,099 IN BENEFITS. THE PROGRAM ALSO ASSISTED 69 VETERANS WITH ADVICE OR REPRESENTATION FOR VA BENEFITS AND 343 ADDITIONAL VETERANS WITH OTHER LEGAL PROBLEMS. THE PROGRAM'S HEALTH INSURANCE NAVIGATORS ALSO HELD OVER 2,000 APPOINTMENTS AND ENROLLED OVER 600 CONSUMERS IN AFFORDABLE CARE ACT MARKETPLACE INSURANCE.
IMMIGRANT JUSTICE PROGRAMDURING FY 2021 THIS PROGRAM MADE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF LOW-INCOME CLIENTS, SPECIFICALLY IMMIGRANTS. THE PROGRAM OBTAINED OR ENFORCED 31 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROTECTIVE ORDER. THE PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDED ADVICE AND EXTENDED REPRESENTATION TO OBTAIN LEGAL IMMIGRATION STATUS, PREPARED IMMIGRATION PAPERWORK, AND PREVENTED EVICTION FOR 409 CLIENTS.
CONSUMER PROTECTION AND VETERANS PROGRAMDURING FY 2021 THIS PROGRAM MADE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF LOW-INCOME CLIENTS WITH CONSUMER PROTECTION ISSUES. THE PROGRAM OFFERED LEGAL ADVICE AND EXTENDED REPRESENTATION TO RESOLVE DISPUTES FOR 154 CLIENTS WITH HOUSING ISSUES. THE PROGRAM ALSO HELPED 199 CLIENTS TO EXPUNGE CRIMINAL RECORDS AND 60 CLIENTS WITH RESTORING THEIR DRIVER'S LICENSE.
