THE ALAMANCE COUNTY COMMUNITY YMCA'S MISSION IS TO PUT CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT BUILD A HEALTHY SPIRIT MIND AND BODY FOR ALL.

HEALTHY LIVING (4A) THE YMCA IS COMMITTED TO IMPROVING AMERICA'S HEALTH AND WELL-BEING, COMMUNITY BY COMMUNITY. WE BRING FAMILIES CLOSER TOGETHER, ENCOURAGE GOOD HEALTH AND FOSTER CONNECTIONS THROUGH FITNESS, SPORTS, FUN AND SHARED INTERESTS. AS A RESULT, OVER 8500 INDIVIDUALS IN OUR COMMUNITY ARE RECEIVING THE SUPPORT, GUIDANCE AND RESOURCES THROUGH YMCA MEMBERSHIP AND PROGRAMS THEY NEED TO ACHIEVE GREATER HEALTH IN SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY. THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT AS OUR NATION STRUGGLES WITH CHRONIC DISEASE AND OBESITY, FAMILIES WRESTLE WITH WORK/LIFE BALANCE AND INDIVIDUALS SEARCH FOR PERSONAL FULFILLMENT. BEYOND FITNESS FACILITIES, ON AN AVERAGE WEEK WE PROVIDE 96 HOURS OF GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTION AND PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT PHYSICAL, INTELLECTUAL AND SPIRITUAL STRENGTH TO OVER 1200 INDIVIDUALS. OVER 400 INDIVIDUALS AND/OR FAMILIES SPENT VALUABLE, QUALITY TIME TOGETHER THROUGH YMCA SPECIAL EVENTS. THESE EVENTS ENCOURAGE PARENTS AND CHILDREN TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER BUILDING THE FOUNDATION FOR A POSITIVE, LIFE-LONG HEALTHY FAMILY RELATIONSHIP. SPECIAL EVENTS INCLUDE HEALTHY KID'S DAY, FATHER/DAUGHTER DANCE, AND OUR ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT (4B) OUR YMCA IS COMMITTED TO NURTURING THE POTENTIAL OF EVERY CHILD AND TEEN. WE BELIEVE ALL CHILDREN HAVE GREAT POTENTIAL AND DESERVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCOVER WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY CAN ACHIEVE. THAT'S WHY WE HELP YOUNG PEOPLE CULTIVATE THE VALUES, SKILLS AND RELATIONSHIPS THAT LEAD TO POSITIVE BEHAVIORS, BETTER HEALTH AND EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT. OUR YMCA PROGRAMS, SUCH AS AFTERSCHOOL CARE, SUMMER CAMP, LEADERS IN TRAINING, YOUTH SWIM LESSONS AND YOUTH SPORTS, OFFER A RANGE OF EXPERIENCES THAT ENRICH SOCIAL- EMOTIONAL, COGNITIVE AND PHYSICAL GROWTH. EXPENSES INCLUDE SUBSIDIES AND DIRECT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE THAT MAKE PARTICIPATION POSSIBLE FOR 20 PERCENT OF THE YOUNG PEOPLE WE ENGAGE. WITH A FOCUS ON SAFETY, HEALTH, SOCIAL GROWTH AND ACADEMIC ENHANCEMENT, Y AFTERSCHOOL CARE AND Y SUMMER CAMP SERVED 1035 CHILDREN BETWEEN KINDERGARTEN AND 8TH GRADE WITH A VARIETY OF ACTIVITY OPTIONS TO EXPLORE AND DEVELOP THEIR INTERESTS AND TALENTS. THESE PROGRAMS TEACH CHILDREN SELF-RELIANCE, A LOVE FOR NATURE AND THE OUTDOORS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF ATTITUDES AND PRACTICES THAT BUILD CHARACTER AND LEADERSHIP. PARENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS FEEL SUPPORTED KNOWING THEIR CHILDREN ARE IN SAFE, STIMULATING ENVIRONMENTS. 486 INDIVIDUAL YOUTH RECEIVED THE LIFE SAVING SKILL OF Y SWIM LESSONS AND/OR PARTICIPATED IN OUR COMPETITIVE SWIM PROGRAM, NOT ONLY LEARNING TO SWIM BUT ALSO GAINING CONFIDENCE AND DEVELOPING HEALTHY HABITS THEY'LL CARRY WITH THEM THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES. 514 INDIVIDUAL YOUTH PARTICIPATED IN Y YOUTH SPORTS, SUCH AS BASKETBALL AND VOLLEYBALL HELPING CHILDREN VALUE HARD WORK, REACH FOR EXCELLENCE AND ENJOY SPIRITED COMPETITION. Y YOUTH SPORTS, GIVES CHILDREN A CHANCE TO EXERT ENERGY, TRY NEW THINGS, MAKE NEW FRIENDS AND JUST BE KIDS.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (4C) OUR YMCA BELIEVES IN GIVING BACK AND SUPPORTING OUR NEIGHBORS. WE HAVE BEEN LISTENING AND RESPONDING TO OUR COMMUNITY'S MOST CRITICAL SOCIAL NEEDS FOR MORE THAN 68 YEARS. Y SERVICES, SUCH AS OUR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AND OUR FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM, ARE EXAMPLES OF HOW WE DELIVER RESOURCES AND SUPPORT THAT EMPOWER OUR NEIGHBORS TO EFFECT CHANGE, BRIDGE GAPS AND OVERCOME OBSTACLES. ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS ARE ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE AND OPEN TO ALL FAITHS, BACKGROUNDS, ABILITIES AND INCOME LEVELS. IN 2023 WE PROVIDED 195,681 IN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO 1946 INDIVIDUALS WHO OTHERWISE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD TO PARTICIPATE. WE ENGAGED OVER 306 VOLUNTEERS AND DONORS IN ACTIVITIES THAT STRENGTHEN OUR COMMUNITY BY MENTORING KIDS, COACHING SPORTS, SERVING AS TUTORS AND RAISING VALUABLE FUNDS THAT SUPPORT OUR MISSION AND PAVE THE WAY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO THRIVE.
