Part 3 - Line 4a

METRO FERALS OPERATES A MOBILE VETERINARY HOSPITAL THAT PROVIDES LOW-COST SERVICES FOR FERAL CATS, TAME/OWNED ANIMALS, FOSTER ANIMALS FROM RESCUE GROUPS, AND SHELTER ANIMALS AT THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF CARROLL COUNTY. IN 2020, 4,200 ANIMALS WERE TREATED BY METRO FERALS MEDICAL STAFF. OUR PATIENTS INCLUDED PETS THAT WERE SEEN AT EMERGENCY HOSPITALS FOR DIAGNOSTICS BUT WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN EUTHANIZED DUE TO COST, BECAUSE THEIR OWNERS COULD NOT AFFORD THE RECOMMENDED SURGERY OR OTHER TREATMENT. IN ADDITION TO SPAYS AND NEUTERS, OUR HOSPITAL OFFERS OTHER SURGICAL SERVICES (E.G., HERNIA REPAIR, ENUCLEATIONS, ENTROPION REPAIR, AMPUTATIONS) AT GREATLY REDUCED COST. METRO FERALS ALSO CONDUCTS LOW-COST, HIGH-VOLUME TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN (TNR) CLINICS FOR FERAL CATS, AND ASSISTS COLONY CAREGIVERS BY PROVIDING TRAPPING EQUIPMENT, INSTRUCTION, AND "COMMUNITY CATS" ARE SPAYED/NEUTERED FOR POPULATION CONTROL, EARTIPPED FOR IDENTIFICATION, AND VACCINATED. TNR REDUCES THE INTAKE OF STRAY AND FERAL CATS/KITTENS AT PUBLIC SHELTERS, AS WELL AS THE NUMBER EUTHANIZED. RABIES VACCINATIONS IMMUNIZE THE CATS AND ALSO SUPPORT PUBLIC HEALTH BY PREVENTING TRANSMISSION OF THE DISEASE TO HUMANS. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PROVIDES EDUCATION TO CAREGIVERS ABOUT COLONY MANAGEMENT AND TREATS COMMUMITY CATS THAT BECOME ILL OR INJURED AFTER THEY ARE TNR'ED.
