PVPC CONTINUED TO PROMOTE THE HEALTH, CARE, SAFETY AND GENERAL WELLBEING OF THE PEKINGESE AND GENERAL AND SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE PEKINGESE AS A COMPANION ANIMAL. PVPC PROVIDED AN EFFECTIVE SAFETY NET FOR PEKINGESE IN THE VIRGINIA AND MARYLAND AREA. CURRENTLY THERE ARE ABOUT 20 DOGS IN THE CARE OF PVPC AT MULTIPLE FOSTER HOMES. 8 DOGS WERE ADOPTED DURING THE YEAR. DOGS WERE TURNED OVER TO PVPC FROM PRIVATE SURRENDER, STRAYS, ABUSIVE ENVIRONMENTS, PUBLIC SHELTERS, AND OWNERS NOT ABLE TO CARE FOR THE DOG. ALL PEKINGESE COMING INTO RESCUE PROGRAM WERE EVALUATED BY A VETERINARIAN AND CORRECTION MEASURES TAKEN AS RECOMMENDED BY THE VETERINARIANS OR THE FOSTER HOME IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE EACH DOG IS GIVEN THE BEST CHANCE FOR A SUCCESSFUL ADOPTION. SOME OF THE PEKINGESE WERE PLACED INTO A PERMANENT FOSTER HOME DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS. AN ACTIVE COMMUNITY IS ESTABLISHED TO HELP CLUB MEMBERS AND OTHER PEKINGESE OWNERS ADDRESS ISSUES SPECIFIC TO THE BREED.
