.DEPRECIATION EXPENSES: FVFD DEPRECIATED THE BUILDING AND VARIOUS IMPROVEMENTS OVER A PERIOD OF 30 YEARS; FIRE TRUCKS AND ENGINES OVER A PERIOD OF 20 YEARS; AMBULANCES OVER A PERIOD OF 10 YEARS; OTHER SERVICE VEHICLES OVER A PERIOD OF 10 YEARS; LEASEHOLD IMPROVEMENTS OVER A PERIOD OF 20 YEARS; AND FURNITURE AND OTHER ASSETS OVER A PERIOD OF 7-20 YEARS. IN 2021, FVFD HAD A VEHICLE FLEET THAT INCLUDED A 51% STAKE IN A TOWER TRUCK, 3 FIRE ENGINES, 4 AMBULANCES, BRUSH TRUCK, COMMAND UTILITY AND GENERAL UTILITY. FVFD ACCEPTED DELIVERY OF A NEW 2020 PIERCE IMPEL FIRE ENGINE FOR THE FRONT LINE ENGINE AT STATION 5 AND DESIGNATED ONE OF THE OLDER ENGINES FOR DONATION. FVFD RECEIVED $50,000 IN GRANTS FROM FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA TO APPLY TO PRINCIPAL BALANCES ON OUTSTANDING LOANS FOR THE TOWER TRUCK AT STATION 5 AND FRONT-LINE ENGINE FOR STATION 37. FVFD ALSO PURCHASED A FORCIBLE ENTRY TRAINING DEVICE FOR $6,900 AND MADE ASSET PURCHASES OF $52,602 PRIMARILY TO UPGRADE COMPUTER AND VIDEO SYSTEMS WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT.
BUILDING MAINTENANCE: IN 2021, FVFD CONTRACTED OUT ALL CORRECTIVE AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE FOR THE HVAC AND POUMBING SYSTEMS, CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND APPLIANCES JANITORIAL SERVICES AND SUPPLIES TO SUPPORT VOLUNTEER OPERATIONS SNOW REMOVAL AND GROUNDSKEEPING.
DUE TO ONGOING HIGH MAINTENANCE COSTS, ONE OF THE AMBULANCES WAS RETIRED EARLY WITH FVFD RECORDING A LOSS OF $57,588 ON DISPOSAL OF THE VEHICLE.
