ON-WATER TRAINING PROGRAM - IN 2017 THE BOATU.S. FOUNDATION LAUNCHED AN ON-WATER TRAINING COURSE, AIMED AT PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PUBLIC TO ACQUIRE HANDS ON SKILLS TRAINING ABOARD RECREATIONAL VESSELS. THE PILOT PHASE BEGAN IN 2017 AND HAS STEADILY INCREASED OVER TIME. MORE THAN 8,500 STUDENTS HAVE RECEIVED TRAINING NATIONWIDE WITH 1537 STUDENTS TRAINED IN 2023. THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ADDRESS THE LACK OF TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES. HANDS ON TRAINING REDUCES RECREATIONAL BOATING ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES, WHILE ALSO SERVING AS A CATALYST TO THE GROWTH OF THE RECREATIONAL BOATING.
KIDS AFLOAT - PROVIDES LOCAL, US BASED NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AN OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY TO PURCHASE KID-SIZED LIFE JACKETS AT A DISCOUNTED RATE OF $5 PER JACKET.EPIRB RENTAL - PROVIDES EMERGENCY POSITION INDICATING RADIO BEACONS AND PERSONAL LOCATOR BEACONS TO BOATERS FOR RENT.FISHING LINE RECYCLING PROGRAM - BUILDS AND PROVIDES FISHING LINE RECYCLING BINS, SIGNAGE AND SUPPORT TO ACTIVE FISHING LOCATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
ONLINE COURSE - THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES A FREE BOATING SAFETY COURSE ON THE INTERNET. ANY BOATER WITH A COMPUTER AND ACCESS TO THE INTERNET CAN TAKE THIS NASBLA APPROVED COURSE AND GAIN VALUABLE SAFETY INFORMATION AND SAFE BOATING SKILLS. A FREE CERTIFICATE MAY BE PRINTED AT A STUDENT'S HOME IF A SCORE OF 80% IS ACCOMPLISHED. THERE WERE 217,689 BOATERS WHO TOOK THE ONLINE COURSE IN 2023. THIS PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES ADDITIONAL COURSES AVAILABLE ONLINE FOR PURCHASE THERE WERE 1304 PURCHASED COURSES TAKEN IN 2023.
GENERAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH THE BOATUS FOUNDATION CIRCULATES GENERAL EDUCATION INFORMATION REGARDING BOATING SAFETY, MARINE DEBRIS, AND CLEAN WATER INITIATIVES. OUR DISTRIBUTION EFFORTS INCLUDE PRINTED BROCHURES, NEWSLETTERS, DIRECT EMAIL AND MULTIPLE PUBLIC SPEAKING EVENTS BY STAFF. BOATUS FOUNDATION PARTICIPATES IN LEADERSHIP POSITIONS ON MANY BOATING SAFETY ORGANIZATIONS NATIONWIDE.
