CONSERVATION, STEWARDSHIP AND HABITAT-RESEARCH THE ECONOMICS OF RURAL LAND PRESERVATION, PROVIDE PUBLIC EDUCATION ON LAND CONSERVATION OPTIONS AND ACQUIRE AND PRESERVE VITAL PROPERTY; PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO LANDOWNERS ON NATIVE HABITAT LAND MANAGEMENT PRACTICES. PEC HAS HELPED LANDOWNERS PERMANENTLY PROTECT MORE THAN 433,000 ACRES OF RURAL OR NATURAL LAND. CONSERVATION EASEMENTS HELP ENSURE THAT THE VIRGINIA PIEDMONT IS ALWAYS CHARACTERIZED BY ITS OPEN SPACES, HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT AND CULTURAL RESOURCES.

PROGRAM INCLUDES CONTENT DEVELOPMENT, CREATION AND PROMOTION IN ONLINE AND PRINT MEDIA, ADVOCACY AT THE LOCAL STATE AND FEDERAL LEVEL, PRESS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS, GIS MAPPING, PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEOGRAPHY, VOLUNTEER PROGRAMMING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SUMMER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM. THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES TO A DOZEN DIVERSE STUDENTS EACH YEAR TO RECEIVE IN DEPTH TRAINING ON ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY AND CONSERVATION, TRANSPORTATION AND COMMUNITY PLANNING AND NONPROFIT STRUCTURES, TO DO A RESEARCH PRESENTATION ON A SELECTED TOPIC AND TO ENGAGE WITH OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL PROFESSIONALS PROVIDING A PATH TO FUTURE CAREERS IN THE FIELD.
