THE PURPOSE OF ECHO IS TO HELP PEOPLE IN NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY BY ASSISTING THOSE WHO SUFFER THE EFFECT OF LONG-TERM POVERTY AS WELL AS PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING AN EMERGENCY NEED. ECHO PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, FOOD, CLOTHING, HOUSEHOLD ITEMS, SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND HOLIDAY ASSISTANCE.

AFTER TWO YEARS OF PANDEMIC-RELATED SERVICE ADAPTATIONS, ECHO RETURNED TO A NORMAL MODE OF OPERATION BY JUNE OF 2022, BUT WITH MASK AND VACCINE MANDATES STILL IN PLACE. ECHO WAS ABLE TO ASSIST 1,487 UNDUPLICATED HOUSEHOLDS (5,526 INDIVIDUALS) IN FY 2022. DURING THE YEAR 416 HOUSEHOLDS RECEIVED ASSISTANCE TO PAY BILLS FOR HOUSING, UTILITIES, PRESCRIPTIONS, AND OTHER ESSENTIAL NEEDS. IN ADDITION, 203 HOUSEHOLDS RECEIVED ASSISTANCE THROUGH COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS WITH FAIRFAX COUNTY UNDER THE CARES ACT AND THE EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. CLIENTS RECEIVED 266,999 POUNDS OF FOOD PLUS $48,180 IN COUPONS FOR FRESH PRODUCE, MEAT AND MILK; 3,386 CLOTHING BAGS; AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS VALUED AT $130,444. 1,077 CHILDREN RECEIVED BACKPACKS FILLED WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES. INCLUDED IN THE HOUSEHOLD ITEMS WERE 27 REFURBISHED COMPUTERS AND 1,662 ENRICHMENT BAGS CONTAINING BOOKS AND TOYS FOR CHILDREN OF CLIENT FAMILIES. 521 FAMILIES RECEIVED HOLIDAY FOOD, AND 588 CHILDREN FROM 241 FAMILIES RECEIVED HOLIDAY GIFTS. BEGINNING IN MARCH 2021 AND CONTINUING THROUGH FY2022, ECHO PROVIDED ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO FAMILIES WITH INFANTS AND YOUNG CHILDREN, SUPPLYING FULL CASES OF DISPOSABLE DIAPERS ON A MONTHLY BASIS. THAT ECHO CONTINUED TO MEET CLIENT NEEDS DURING THE PANDEMIC GIVES ELOQUENT TESTIMONY TO THE MATURITY OF THE ORGANIZATION AND ITS PROCESSES, THE SELFLESSNESS OF ITS VOLUNTEERS, AND THE GENEROSITY OF ITS DONORS.
