THE GARDEN CLUB OF VIRGINIA RESTORES AND PRESERVES HISTORIC GARDENS AND LANDSCAPES IN VIRGINIA, PROMOTES THE CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES, INSPIRES KNOWLEDGE AND APPRECIATION OF HORTICULTURE AND FLORAL DESIGN, AND PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR ITS MEMBERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

TO FULFILL ITS MISSION, THE GARDEN CLUB OF VIRGINIA (GCV) SUPPORTS AND ADVANCES THE EFFORTS OF ITS 48 MEMBER CLUBS, 3,400 INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS, AND APPROVED EXTERNAL ENTITIES. THE CLUBS HOST HISTORIC GARDEN WEEK IN VIRGINIA, THE OLDEST AND LARGEST STATEWIDE HOME AND GARDEN TOUR IN THE NATION. PROCEEDS FROM HISTORIC GARDEN WEEK TOURS BENEFIT THE RESTORATION OF HISTORIC LANDSCAPES AND GARDENS THROUGHOUT THE STATE.
OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES INCLUDE PUBLICATION OF 'THE JOURNAL', SALES OF GARDENING AND CONSERVATION BOOKS, AND OTHER EVENTS.
SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 1920, GCV HAS COMPLETED GARDEN AND LANDSCAPE RESTORATION PROJECTS AT 49 SITES TO HELP MAINTAIN THEIR HISTORICAL, HORTICULTURAL AND ARCHITECTURAL INTEGRITY. PROJECTS THAT WERE DEDICATED IN 2022 INCLUDE POPLAR FOREST (FOREST, VA), WILLIAM & MARY (WILLIAMSBURG, VA), STRATFORD HALL (WESTMORELAND COUNTY, VA), THE POE MUSEUM (RICHMOND, VA), AND KENMORE (FREDERICKSBURG, VA). THE GCV ALSO SUPPORTS A FELLOWSHIP IN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE RESEARCH WHICH WAS ON HOLD DURING THE PANDEMIC.
AS PART OF ITS EDUCATIONAL MISSION, GCV HOSTED CONSERVATION FORUMS, WEBINARS, PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS AND FLORAL DESIGN PROGRAMS. IT ALSO SPONSORED FELLOWSHIPS IN CONSERVATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES AND PROVIDED COMPETITIVE GRANT AWARDS TO MEMBER CLUBS FOR COMMUNITY CONSERVATION AND BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS.
