THE CONNECTICUT ORAL HEALTH INITIATIVE (COHI) IS A 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION THAT HAS PROMOTED ORAL HEALTH FOR ALL THE RESIDENTS IN CONNECTICUT WITH A FOCUS ON THE MOST VULNERABLE POPULATIONS WHICH INCLUDES LOW-INCOME FAMILIES, CHILDREN, AND OLDER ADULTS. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH STAKEHOLDERS, PROVIDERS, AND HEALTH ADVOCATES, WE ADVOCATED FOR: TELEDENTAL ACCESS AND COVERAGE DURING THE PANDEMIC-RELATED SHUT DOWN AND TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF MOST DENTAL OFFICES AND COVERAGE AND ACCESS TO NON-AEROSOL AND NON-INVASIVE CARRIES MANAGEMENT TO SAFELY PROTECT ORAL HEALTH DURING THE PANDEMIC. WE PARTNERED WITH THE CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH TO RELEASE A PATIENT EMPOWERMENT AND DECISION-MAKING TOOL FOR RETURNING TO THE DENTIST AND RECEIVING APPROPRIATE SERVICES AND TO PLAN TO CONDUCT BASIC SCREENING SURVEILLANCE FOR THE ORAL HEALTH OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE OLDER ADULTS. WE WERE SUCCESSFUL IN MAINTAINING MEDICAID REIMBURSEMENT RATES AND SERVICES, PROTECTING ORAL HEALTH SERVICES IN SCHOOLS, FURTHERING WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO CARE, AND INTEGRATING ORAL HEALTH INTO HEALTH SYSTEMS. COHI CONTINUES TO ADVOCATE FOR INCREASING ACCESS TO CARE, EDUCATING THE PUBLIC AND DECISION MAKERS ON ORAL HEALTH, AND PARTNERING WITH OTHERS TO ADVANCE ORAL HEALTH ACCESS AND EQUITY.
