GOVERNANCE, ADVOCACY, AND POLICY DIVISION: THE AUA WORKS ON BEHALF OF AUA MEMBERS AND THEIR PATIENTS TO ENSURE CRITICAL INTERESTS ARE PROMOTED TO LAWMAKERS ON CAPITOL HILL AND FEDERAL OFFICIALS IN GOVERNMENT AGENCIES. ACTIVITIES ARE DEDICATED TO IMPROVING THE PRACTICE OF UROLOGY AND UROLOGICAL HEALTH. IN 2022, MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDED HOLDING THE 5TH ANNUAL UROLOGY ADVOCACY SUMMIT THAT BROUGHT TOGETHER APPROXIMATELY 300 UROLOGISTS, ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDERS, RESEARCHERS, AND PATIENT ADVOCATES FOR OVER 200 FACE TO FACE MEETINGS WITH MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND THEIR STAFF AND SUCCESSFULLY SECURING THE INTRODUCTION OF THE SPECIALTY PHYSICIANS ADVANCING RURAL CARE ACT (S. 705) FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADDRESSING THE MEDICAL WORKFORCE SHORTAGE AND ESTABLISHING A FEDERAL LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM FOR SPECIALTY PHYSICIANS WHO ELECT TO PRACTICE IN A RURAL COMMUNITY.
MEMBERSHIP: THE AUA IS A GLOBAL MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZATION WITH MORE THAN 24,000 MEMBERS FROM OVER 100 COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE. THROUGH ITS LEADERSHIP, THE AUA UNITES THE GLOBAL UROLOGIC COMMUNITY TO ADVANCE UROLOGIC PATIENT CARE AROUND THE WORLD THROUGH EDUCATION, RESEARCH, AND THE FORMULATION OF HEALTH CARE POLICY. THE GEOGRAPHIC BREADTH OF AUA'S MEMBERSHIP FOSTERS STRONG RELATIONSHIPS AND AN EXCHANGE OF KNOWLEDGE BETWEEN UROLOGY PROFESSIONALS AROUND THE WORLD. IN 2022, THE AUA WELCOMED MORE THAN 2,400 NEW MEMBERS TO THE ORGANIZATION.
ANNUAL MEETING: ANNUALLY, THE AUA HOLDS A CONFERENCE FOCUSING ON CUTTING-EDGE SCIENCE AND GROUNDBREAKING RESEARCH RELATED TO UROLOGIC MEDICINE. ATTRACTING MORE THAN 16,000 RESEARCH SCIENTISTS AND MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS RELATED TO THE FIELDS OF UROLOGY AND CLINICAL CARE, THE MEETING IS FOCUSED ON EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS ABOUT ADVANCEMENTS IN UROLOGIC RESEARCH AND IS VITAL TO THE ADVANCEMENT IN SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE OF ATTENDEES. FOR 2022, THE AUA SUCCESSFULLY HELD ITS FIRST HYBRID MEETING IN NEW ORLEANS, WITH AN IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL COMPONENT WHICH EXPANDED THE REACH OF THE EDUCATIONAL CONTENT PRESENTED IN THE BUILDING THROUGH STREAMED PLENARY PRESENTATIONS WITH AUDIENCE INTERACTION, INDUSTRY CLINICAL UPDATES SHOWCASING ADVANCEMENTS AND INNOVATIONS IN LABORATORY EQUIPMENT, PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS, AND DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS, INSTRUCTIONAL COURSES, AND ABSTRACT PRESENTATIONS.
