FARMERS AND HUNTERS FEEDING THE HUNGRY, INC. INVITES HUNTERS AND FARMERS IN STATES NATIONWIDE TO DONATE DEER, ELK, AND LIVESTOCK TO LOCAL BUTCHER SHOPS FOR PROCESSING AND DISTRIBUTION TO THE NEEDY THROUGH FOOD BANKS, PANTRIES, AND MINISTRIES. THE ORGANIZATION COMPENSATES THE PARTICIPATING BUTCHER SHOPS FOR PROCESSING AND PACKAGING THE DONATED MEAT SO THAT DONORS AND RECIPIENTS CAN PARTICIPATE FREE OF CHARGE. DEVELOPMENTAL RESOURCES, TRAINING AND SUPPORT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO VOLUNTEERS WHO COORDINATE THE PROGRAM LOCALLY IN THEIR STATE. APPROXIMATELY 60 TONS OF MEAT WAS DONATED AND PROCESSED THIS YEAR YIELDING 478 THOUSAND MEAL SERVINGS OF NUTRITIOUS MEAT. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO NETWORKS WITH OTHER SIMILAR DONATION PROGRAMS IN VARIOUS STATES, PROVIDES OCCASIONAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO SUCH PROGRAMS, AND WORKS TO ENCOURAGE INCREASED HUNTER PARTICIPATION AND PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR ALL SUCH PROGRAMS THROUGH EDUCATION AND AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS.
