DAYSPRING PROGRAMS, INC. (DAYSPRING) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1997 TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES FOCUSING ON THOSE AFFECTED BY SUBSTANCE ABUSE, HOMELESSNESS AND POVERTY. THE PURPOSE WAS TO PROVIDE HOUSING AND SUPPORT SERVICES TO STRENGTHEN SUSTAINED RECOVERY AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY OF HOMELESS FAMILIES IN TREATMENT AND RECOVERY FROM SUBSTANCE ABUSE. DAYSPRING'S HEAD START SERVICES TARGET LOW-INCOME FAMILIES WITH A SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAMS.DAYSPRING PROVIDES A HEAD START PROGRAM SERVING 584 CHILDREN. HEAD START CENTERS PROVIDE DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN AND PARENTING EDUCATION ACTIVITIES FOR PARENTS. SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAMS ARE PROVIDED FOR BOTH HOUSING AND HEAD START PARTICIPANTS.DAYSPRING MEETS STATE HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS IN ITS FACILITIES. DAYSPRING HEAD START MEETS LICENSING REQUIREMENTS OF THE STATE CHILD CARE ADMINISTRATION AND ALL FEDERAL HEAD START REQUIREMENTS. DAYSPRING PROGRAMS WAS AWARDED THE STANDARDS FOR EXCELLENCE SEAL GIVEN BY MARYLAND ASSOCIATION OF NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS.
