(HEBCAC), WAS FORMED ON FEBRUARY 4, 1994, AS A NON-STOCK CORPORATION IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY, JOHNS HOPKINS HEALTH SYSTEM, THE KENNEDY KRIEGER INSTITUTE, BALTIMORE CITY, THE STATE OF MARYLAND AND THE COMMUNITY. HEBCAC IS SUPPORTED BY GRANTS CONTRIBUTIONS, CONTRACTS AND PROJECT FEES.HEBCAC'S STATED MISSION IS TO PROMOTE ECONOMIC GROWTH THAT BUILDS HEALTHY, THRIVING NEIGHBORHOODS AND STABLE HOUSEHOLDS IN EAST BALTIMORE. YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES (YO!) INITIATIVE: LOCATED AT 1212 N. WOLFE STREET, BALTIMORE MD 21213, THE HEBCAC YO! CENTER PROVIDES A COMPREHENSIVE LEARNING PROGRAM FOR OUT-OF-SCHOOL YOUTH AGES 16-21. SERVICES INCLUDE BASIC EDUCATION/GED PREPARATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB READINESS, SUPPORT SERVICES, COMMITTED INVOLVEMENT OF CARING ADULTS AND DEVELOPMENTAL OPPORTUNITIES AIMED AT ASSISTING THE YOUNG PERSON IN THE SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION TO ADULTHOOD AND RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP.
DEE'S PLACE AND THRESHOLD TO RECOVERY: DEE'S PLACE IS OPEN TO ANYONE SEEKING TO RECOVER FROM DRUG AND ALCOHOL ADDICTION. THIS RECOVERY CENTER IS A SUPPORTIVE PLACE WHERE PEOPLE CAN BE AMONG OTHERS IN RECOVERY AND RECEIVE REFERRALS TO DRUG AND ALCOHOL TREATMENT PROGRAMS. STAFF ALSO MAKE REFERRALS FOR MEDICAL/MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT, HOUSING AND EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE, AND OTHER SERVICES TO HELP CREATE A BETTER LIFE IN RECOVERY. DEE'S PLACE, LOCATED IN THE REAR OF 1212 N. WOLFE ST., IS OPEN 24 HOURS, 7 DAYS A WEEK. DEE'S PLACE IS ALSO A KEY PARTNER OF THE LARGER BALTIMORE CITY PROGRAM - THRESHOLD TO RECOVERY.
CLOSED-OUT SHELTER: THE NEST IS A 10 BED COMMUNITY-BASED YOUTH EMERGENCY SHELTER. IT IS CO-LOCATED IN EAST BALTIMORE WITH THE HISTORIC EAST BALTIMORE COMMUNITY ACTION COALITION'S (HEBCAC) AND YOUTH OPPORTUNITY (YO) CENTER WHICH IS A WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES WRAP AROUND SERVICES FOR OUT OF SCHOOL YOUNG ADULTS. THE NEST OPERATES 7 DAYS A WEEK FROM, 4:30PM- 8:30AM; SERVING YOUTH AGES 18-24 WHILE PROVIDING A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR A 30-90 DAY STAY.
