THE MISSION OF THE SOUTHWESTBUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (SWBID) IS TO DESIGN AND MANAGE A COMPREHENSIVE SERIES OF PROGRAMS TO IMPROVE THE IMAGE, CONNECTIVITY, AND BUSINESS CLIMATE OF THE NEAR SOUTHWEST QUADRANT OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. THE SWBID PROVIDES PLACE MANAGEMENT, BRANDING AND PLACEMAKING SERVICES AND PROGRAMS. THE GOAL OF ALL OF THE SWBID INITIATIVES IS TO MAKE SOUTHWEST DC A CLEANER, SAFER AND BETTER CONNECTED PLACE.

PLACE MANAGEMENT - SWBID PROVIDES SERVICES TO SWDC PROPERTY OWNERS AND RESIDENTS THROUGH SAFETY, CLEANLINESS, AND BEAUTIFICATION SUPPORT OF THE BID AREA. SERVICES INCLUDE: A DAILY WORK PLAN FOCUSING ON TARGET AREAS FOR CLEANING AND REPAIR BY THE SW "CLEAN TEAM; AN ONGOING ASSESSMENT OF PUBLIC SPACE AMENITIES; SUPPLEMENTAL CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE OF PUBLIC PARKS AND FEDERAL RESERVATIONS; REMOVAL OF DEBRIS IN PUBLIC AREAS; POWERWASHING OF SIDEWALKS, UNDERPASSES AND BRIDGES TO REMOVE DIRT ACCUMULATION AND ALL GRAFFITI; INSTALLATION OF SEASONAL BANNERS AND WAYFINDING SIGNS; THE PLANTING AND LANDSCAPING IN PUBLIC SPACES; OUTREACH TO THE HOMELESS TO PROVIDE MEDICAL, LEGAL AND SERVICE REFERRALS, AS NEEDED.
PLACEMAKING - SWBID ACTIVATES PUBLIC SPACES WITHIN THE BID BORDERS IN ORDER TO PROMOTE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND CONNECTIVITY. DURING FY2020,SWBID CONTINUED TO SUPPORT THE TWO ACTIVATIONS LAUNCHED THE PRIOR YEAR LOCATED AT THE LOT AT 4TH AND M STREET SW (A WEEKLY FARMER'S MARKET AND A TWICE MONTHLY NIGHT MARKET) AND FEDERAL RESERVATION 113 (THE CORNER OF 7TH AND MARYLAND AVE SW). WE MAINTAIN ONGOING RELATIONSHIPS WITH COMMUNITY LEADERS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS TO LAUNCH SPECIAL EVENTS AND BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAMS.
PLACE BRANDING - SWBID PLACE BRANDING INITIATIVES INCLUDE GATHERING AND PUBLICIZING DATA ON THE CHANGING, DIVERSE NEIGHBORHOOD, UPDATING WEBSITE CONTENT, FORMULATING WAYFINDING SIGNAGE, MAINTAINING AN ACTIVEVIRTUAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN, AND HOSTING COMMUNITY GROUPS TO MAXIMIZE NEWPUBLIC INITIATIVES IN THE AREA.
