INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF AIRCRAFT OWNER AND PILOT ASSOCIATIONS IAOPA CURRENTLY REPRESENTS OVER 358,000 MEMBERS IN 82 COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD. WE CONTINUE TO GAIN STRENGTH FROM OUR INCREASED INVOLVEMENT AT INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION ORGANIZATION ICAO AND REGIONAL WORKING GROUPS. BY WORKING TOGETHER WE CAN EXPAND THE WORLDS PUBLIC AND GOVERNMENT ACCEPTANCE OF GENERAL AVIATION AS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE WORLDS TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM. AT PREVIOUS IAOPA WORLD ASSEMBLIES RESOLUTIONS WERE APPROVED THAT CALLED ON IAOPA TO WORK WITH THE ICAO ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MODERNIZED ALTERNATIVE MEDICAL STANDARD FOR USE BY PRIVATE PILOTS. SINCE THE PASSAGE OF THESE RESOLUTIONS A LOT OF WORK ON THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING BEHIND THE SCENE TO GET THIS ITEM INCLUDED IN ICAOS WORK STREAM. WE ARE PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THIS WORK HAS PAID OFF AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW MEDICAL STANDARD FOR LIGHT AIRCRAFT PILOTS HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE ICAO AIR NAVIGATION COMMISSION THE ANC IS THE TECHNICAL COMMISSION FOR ICAO FOR INCLUSION IN ICAOS WORK PLAN AND SUBSEQUENTLY BEEN ASSIGNED TO THE FLTOPS PANEL AT ICAO. AN INTERNAL IAOPA WORKING GROUP CONSISTING OF REGULATORY AND MEDICAL EXPERTS HAS BEEN FORMED TO ADDRESS THIS TASK. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROCESS AND UPDATES WILL BE PROVIDED AS THE PROCESS MOVES FORWARD. IAOPA HELPED GENERATE STANDARDS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE FOR COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS SO THAT GENERAL AVIATION GA CAN OPERATE WITH FEWER CONSTRAINTS. THESE STANDARDS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO PROVIDE GUIDANCE TO GA OPERATORS.
FORTUNATELY IAOPA STARTED EARLY ON OUR PPL-LIGHT PROPOSAL TWO-YEARS AGO IN WHICH WE ASKED FOR SIMPLER MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS. THIS PERMITTED THE ICAO ASSEMBLY AT THAT TIME TO APPROVE OUR PROPOSAL. WE ARE HOPEFUL THAT THE NEWLY REFORMED PILOT TRAINING AND LICENSING PANEL PTLP WILL SEE FIT TO PROGRESS OUR INITIATIVE QUICKLY THROUGH ICAO AS A RESULT OF IAOPA PRESENTING A CAMERA-READY PROPOSAL TO THE PANEL. OUR PROPOSAL WAS PRESENTED TO THE FLIGHT OPERATIONS PANEL WHICH ACCEPTED THE IAOPA PROPOSAL OF A GA-LIGHT AIRCRAFT CATEGORY OF UNDER 3000 KG A LIMIT MEANT FOR PPL-LIGHT LICENSE HOLDERS AND THE FLTOPS PANEL FORWARDED THAT DECISION TO THE PTLP. ONCE THE PTLP HAS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONSIDER THE IAOPA PROPOSAL IT WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE MEDICAL PANEL. 2020 SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES: ATTENDED ALL AIR NAVIGATION COMMISSION MEETINGS. PARTICIPATED IN SEVERAL ANC COMMISSION GROUP CG MEETINGS. PARTICIPATED ON THE RPAS PANEL AND ITS AIRWORTHINESS WORKING GROUP AND DETECT AND AVOID WORKING GROUP.
