ETHIOPIA ELECTIONS AND POLITICAL PROCESSES PROGRAM: THE ETHIOPIA ELECTIONS AND POLITICAL PROCESSES PROGRAM (EEPPP) IS INTENDED TO STRENGTHEN DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS AND PROCESSES TO ADVANCE REFORM AND SAFEGUARD DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES IN ETHIOPIA. THE 2021 GENERALELECTIONS REPRESENTED AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ETHIOPIA TO TRANSFORM INTO A MORE POLITICALLY INCLUSIVE SOCIETY, AND CEPPS/IFES SUPPORTED THE INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF BEST PRACTICES AND PRINCIPLES FOR ELECTORAL BODIES AND CIVIL SOCIETY. CEPPS/IFES ACTIVITIES PROMOTE MEANINGFUL PARTICIPATION IN THE POLITICAL SYSTEM, INCLUDING THAT OF WOMEN, YOUTH, AND OTHER TRADITIONALLY MARGINALIZED GROUPS. CEPPS/IFES ACTIVITIES FURTHER SUPPORT AND STRENGTHEN THE INTEGRITY OF ELECTIONS AS A SUSTAINABLE VEHICLE FOR PEACEFULLY AND DEMOCRATICALLY CHOOSING LEADERS.
LIBYA ELECTIONS AND LEGISLATIVE STRENGTHENING ACTIVITY (LELSA): THE LELSA PROGRAM AIMS TO INCREASE CONFIDENCE AND TRUST IN POLITICAL AND ELECTORAL INSTITUTIONS, INCORPORATE CIVIL SOCIETY INTO POLICY AND DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES, AND INCREASE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF ALL SEGMENTS OF LIBYAN SOCIETY, INCLUDING PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, WOMEN, YOUTH, AND TRADITIONALLY MARGINALIZED POPULATIONS. CEPPS/IFES WORKS TO ENHANCE CIVIC AND VOTER ENGAGEMENT AND UNDERSTANDING AND TO ENSURE THAT INSTITUTIONS WITH ELECTORAL RESPONSIBILITIES CAN DELIVER MORE CREDIBLE ELECTIONS. CEPPS/IFES WORKS CLOSELY WITH LEADERSHIP FROM THE HNEC TO SUPPORT INTERNAL CAPACITY BUILDING, INCLUDING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR STAFF IN THE AREAS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, VOTER OUTREACH, SOCIAL MEDIA, JOURNALISM AND REPORTING, AND ELECTION SECURITY.
IRAQ PROVINCIAL ELECTIONS ACTIVITY: THROUGH IPEA, CEPPS WILL BUILD ON THE ASSISTANCE PROVIDED TO IHEC DURING THE 2021 PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS. CEPPS/IFES WILL ENGAGE WITH IHEC TO IMPROVE THE MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION OF IRAQ'S ELECTION SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES. CEPPS/IFES WITH OTHER PARTNERS WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT IHEC AFTER ELECTION DAY TO ENSURE THAT DEMOCRATIC GAINS ARE CONSOLIDATED AND THAT IRAQI STAKEHOLDERS ARE BETTER PREPARED TO ADMINISTER FUTURE ELECTIONS. IPEA WILL REACH BOTH BENEFICIARIES AT IHEC IN BAGHDAD AND THOSE ACROSS ALL IRAQI GOVERNORATES PARTICIPATING IN THE PLANNED PROVINCIAL ELECTIONS. IPEA EMPHASIZES TAILORED SUPPORT FOR TRADITIONALLY MARGINALIZED POPULATIONS SUCH AS WOMEN AND ETHNIC AND RELIGIOUS MINORITIES. THESE POPULATIONS HAVE BEEN EXCLUDED FROM THE POLITICAL PROCESS.
