THE MISSION OF MONTGOMERY PRESERVATION, INC. IS TO PRESERVE, PROTECT AND PROMOTE MONTGOMERY COUNTY'S RICH ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE AND HISTORIC LANDSCAPES.

MPI ADVOCATES FOR THE PRESERVATION OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY'S HISTORIC BUILDINGS, OBJECTS AND SPACES. AS PART OF THIS MISSION, IN JULY 1998 MPI BECAME THE OWNER OF THE HISTORIC B&O RAILROAD STATION IN SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND WHICH IT RENTS OUT FOR SPECIAL EVENTS.


MPI SPONSORS THE ANNUAL MONTGOMERY COUNTY AWARDS FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION PROGRAM, WHICH RECOGNIZES SUPERIOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION EFFORTS BY OWNERS, EDUCATORS AND ORGANIZATIONS. MPI ALSO HOSTS EVENTS AND WORKSHOPS ON TOPICS SUCH AS TAX CREDIT PROGRAMS AND MANSIONIZATION, TO HIGHLIGHT THE IMPORTANCE OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION AS PUBLIC POLICY. MPI EDUCATES THE PUBLIC ABOUT COUNTY HERITAGE RESOURCES AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION'S ROLE IN CREATING LIVABLE, ECONOMICALLY VIABLE AND DISTINCT COMMUNITIES.


MPI PARTNERS WITH NONPROFIT LOCAL GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS WHO SHARE PRESERVATION GOALS. THIS INCLUDES CO-SPONSORSHIP OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, CONDUCTING SPECIAL EVENTS, FUND-RAISING FOR RELATED CAUSES, VIRTUAL PRESENTATIONS, AND PARTICIPATION IN HERITAGE DAYS. MPI HOLDS FREE OPEN HOUSES EVERY MONTH AT THE B&O STATION AND HELPS TO PROTECT HISTORIC PLACES AND LANDSCAPES BY WEIGHING IN ON PROPOSALS AFFECTING THEM. FOR A DECADE MPI HAS BEEN ENGAGED IN PLANNING FOR THE HIKER-BIKER TRAIL PLANNED BY MCDOT. MPI'S SIGNATURE EVENT IS THE ANNUAL AWARDS FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION, NOW IN ITS 33RD YEAR.
