FEDERAL AFFAIRS - SEIA WAS DEEPLY ENGAGED IN A NUMBER OF KEY FEDERAL POLICY INITIATIVES IN 2021, WITH THE START OF A NEW CONGRESS AND PRESIDENTIAL ADMINISTRATION. FOLLOWING THE CREATION OF A ROBUST POLICY AGENDA FOR THE SOLAR AND STORAGE INDUSTRIES, THE ORGANIZATION WORKED WITH MEMBERS AND ALLIES TO HELP SHAPE THE DIRECTION OF AN EVOLVING SUITE OF POLICY PROPOSALS IN CONGRESS TO SUPPORT CLEAN ENERGY GROWTH AND ADDRESS CLIMATE CHANGE. THESE ACTIVITIES RESULTED IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PASSING THE BUILD BACK BETTER ACT, WHICH INCLUDED MANY OF THE KEY PRIORITIES PUT FORTH BY SEIA AND THE INDUSTRY TO ACCELERATE DEPLOYMENT OF SOLAR AND SUPPORT CLEAN ENERGY JOB CREATION NATIONWIDE. OUTSIDE OF CONGRESS, SEIA WAS INVOLVED IN MANY KEY REGULATORY PROCEEDINGS, INCLUDING RULEMAKINGS AT THE FEDERAL ENERGY REGULATORY COMMISSION ON TRANSMISSION REFORMS AND POWER MARKET DESIGN, AS WELL AS A WIDE-RANGING PORTFOLIO OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE POLICY EFFORTS, INCLUDING A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN TO REJECT AN ANONYMOUS PETITION AT THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE TO IMPLEMENT NEW TARIFFS ON IMPORTS OF SOLAR PRODUCTS.
STATE AFFAIRS - SEIA'S STATE POLICY EFFORTS RESULTED IN SEVERAL KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2021, INCLUDING PASSAGE OF A TAX REFORM BILL IN MASSACHUSETTS THAT PROVIDED KEY CERTAINTY TO SOLAR BUSINESSES, PRESERVATION OF A NET METERING PROGRAM IN SOUTH CAROLINA, REGULATORY REFORMS THAT FURTHER ENABLED SOLAR AND STORAGE INTERCONNECTION IN COLORADO, IMPLEMENTATION OF A NEW SOLAR INCENTIVE PROGRAM IN NEW JERSEY, AND PASSAGE OF A LANDMARK RENEWABLE ENERGY STANDARD IN ILLINOIS
PUBLIC AFFAIRS - SEIA'S COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS WERE A CRITICAL ASPECT OF THE ORGANIZATIONS SUCCESS IN 2022, SEEING GROWTH ACROSS A NUMBER OF KEY METRICS, INCLUDING A 33% INCREASE IN OVERALL MEDIA HITS OVER 2020 AND A 70% INCREASE IN REACH. SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE WAS ANOTHER KEY AREA OF GROWTH, WITH SIGNIFICANT INCREASES IN REACH AND EXPOSURE ACROSS ALL KEY CHANNELS. SEIA ALSO EXPANDED ITS INVESTMENT AND IMPACT IN GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING AND POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT, WORKING WITH KEY STAKEHOLDERS IN THE INDUSTRY AND AMONG POWERFUL ALLIES TO EDUCATE POLICYMAKERS AND DEMONSTRATE THE POSITIVE IMPACT OF CLEAN ENERGY GROWTH ON LOCAL COMMUNITIES.
