HARD BARGAIN FARM ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER'S EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR ELEMENTARY TO MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS IS DESIGNED TO PROMOTE UNDERSTANDING AND STEWARDSHIP OF THE NATURAL RESOURCES OF THE POTOMAC RIVER WATERSHED AND THE LEGACY OF FARMING IN AMERICA. COURSES AT HARD BARGAIN FARM IMMERSE STUDENTS IN VARIOUS FIELD STUDIES INVOLVING FUN AND INNOVATIVE HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES AND FIELD INVESTIGATIONS DESIGNED TO ENGAGE ALL LEARNING STYLES.
BRIDGING THE WATERSHED IS AN OUTREACH PROGRAM OF THE ALICE FERGUSON FOUNDATION, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE AND AREA SCHOOLS, WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE PERSONALLY MEANINGFUL, EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES THAT CONNECT STUDENTS TO THEIR PLACE IN THE NATURAL AND CULTURAL WORLD. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY FIELD STUDIES FOR STUDENTS, TEACHER TRAINING, AND STANDARD-BASED CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT.
THE TRASH FREE POTOMAC WATERSHED INITIATIVE IS A PROGRAM WORKING TO REDUCE LITTER AND WASTE THROUGH EDUCATION, POLICY, ENFORCEMENT, REGULATION, AND MARKET BASED INCENTIVES. THESE GOALS ARE ACHIEVED THROUGH THE ANNUAL POTOMAC RIVER WATERSHED TRASH SUMMIT, ANNUAL POTOMAC RIVER WATERSHED CLEANUP, TRASH FREE COMMUNITIES, AND TRASH FREE SCHOOLS.
