MOUNTAIN MARYLAND GATEWAY TO THE WEST HERITAGE AREA IS LOCALLY DESIGNATED AND STATE CERTIFIED REGION WHERE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PARTNERS MAKE COMMITMENTS TO PRESERVING HISTORICAL, CULTURAL AND NATURAL RESOURCES FOR SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT THROUGH HERITAGE TOURISM.
