HOPEHEALTH HOSPICE & PALLIATIVE CARE (HHHPC) IS THE SECOND-OLDEST HOSPICE IN THE NATION AND THE LARGEST AND MOST EXPERIENCED HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CARE AGENCY IN RHODE ISLAND. THE AGENCY PROVIDES QUALITY, COMPASSIONATE HEALTH CARE TO PEOPLE FACING THE ADVANCED STAGES OF SERIOUS ILLNESS.AT HOPEHEALTH, SAFETY CONTINUES TO BE OUR TOP PRIORITY. AS THE PANDEMIC SITUATION IMPROVES AND GUIDELINES ARE MODIFIED, WE ARE COMMITTED TO KEEPING OUR STAFF, PATIENTS AND COMMUNITY SAFE WHILE PROVIDING THE VERY BEST PATIENT CARE. HHHPC HAS SERVED THE COMMUNITY FOR OVER 40 YEARS AND OWNS AND OPERATES THE ONLY FREE-STANDING HOSPICE INPATIENT CENTER IN THE STATE, THE PHILIP HULITAR HOSPICE CENTER, IN PROVIDENCE. THE AGENCY ALSO OFFERS PALLIATIVE CARE SERVICES, DESIGNED TO PROVIDE CONSULTATION SERVICES AT THE REQUEST OF PHYSICIANS AND OTHER HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS FOR MANAGING THE PAIN AND CARE OF PATIENTS WITH COMPLEX MEDICAL CONDITIONS, MANY OF WHICH ARE NOT HOSPICE PATIENTS.THESE PROGRAMS, WHICH ARE OFFERED TO PATIENTS REGARDLESS OF THEIR INSURANCE COVERAGE, HISTORICALLY HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY UNDERFUNDED BY GOVERNMENTAL AND NON GOVERNMENTAL PAYORS. HHHPC PROVIDES SERVICES REGARDLESS OF A PATIENT'S ABILITY TO PAY, MAKING CHARITY CARE AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE TO PATIENTS WITH LIMITED OR NO FINANCIAL RESOURCES BASED ON THE AGENCY'S SLIDING-SCALE PROGRAM.OUR PHYSICIANS, WHO MAKE HOME, NURSING HOME AND HOSPITAL VISITS, ARE NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR CUTTING-EDGE ACADEMIC RESEARCH AND EXPERTISE IN HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CARE. THE ORGANIZATION HAS NURSES AND SOCIAL WORKERS WHO WORK 24 HOURS A DAY AND RESPOND READILY TO URGENT PATIENT AND FAMILY NEEDS. FREE CONSULTATIONS ARE OFFERED TO PATIENTS AND FAMILIES AT ANY TIME AND WHEREVER THEY CHOOSE.A VARIETY OF COMPLEMENTARY SERVICES ARE OFFERED THROUGH HHHPC'S ROBUST VOLUNTEER PROGRAM INCLUDING PET THERAPY, REIKI, MASSAGE AND MUSIC THERAPIES, TO PATIENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS IN COMBINATION WITH TRADITIONAL MEDICAL THERAPIES. THE AGENCY HAS ADOPTED THE HIGHEST STANDARDS IN HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CARE, AS VALIDATED BY ITS ACCREDITATION FROM THE COMMUNITY HEALTH ACCREDITATION PROGRAM (CHAP), AND IT WAS NAMED A 2014 HOSPICE HONORS RECIPIENT, RECOGNIZING THE AGENCY AS ONE OF THE TOP HOSPICE AGENCIES IN THE COUNTRY FOR FAMILY SATISFACTION. HHHPC IS THE MAJOR TEACHING AFFILIATE FOR HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE MEDICINE OF THE WARREN ALPERT MEDICAL SCHOOL OF BROWN UNIVERSITY, AS WELL AS AN EDUCATION SITE FOR URI COLLEGES OF NURSING AND PHARMACY AND THE RHODE ISLAND COLLEGES OF NURSING AND SOCIAL WORK.NUMEROUS SPECIAL EVENTS, SUCH AS THE SPRING CELEBRATION OF REMEMBRANCE AND LIGHT UP A LIFE TREE LIGHTINGS WERE HELD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FOR THE BENEFIT OF CURRENT AND FORMER FAMILY MEMBERS OF PATIENTS CARED FOR BY HHHPC, AS WELL AS THE GENERAL COMMUNITY. NUMEROUS BEREAVEMENT AND SUPPORT GROUPS ARE OFFERED TO CURRENT FAMILIES, FAMILY MEMBERS OF FORMER PATIENTS, AND THE GENERAL COMMUNITY AT LARGE, INCLUDING CAMP BRAVEHEART, A FREE, TWO-DAY SUMMER CAMP FOR GRIEVING CHILDREN AND TEENS. OTHER SUPPORT PROGRAMS INCLUDE A BROAD ARRAY OF BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUPS FOR A VARIETY OF AGES AND LIFE STAGES. THE AGENCY MANAGES AND SUPPORTS A STRONG VOLUNTEER SERVICES PROGRAM STAFFED BY A DEDICATED MANAGER AND STAFF OF VOLUNTEER COORDINATORS. IN FY 2021, 239 NEW VOLUNTEERS WERE TRAINED. VOLUNTEERS OFFERED AN ARRAY OF SERVICES FROM ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT TO COMPLEMENTARY SERVICES FOR A TOTAL OF 9,450 VOLUNTEER HOURS DURING THE FISCAL YEAR.HHHPC SPEAKER'S BUREAU OFFERED VARIOUS EDUCATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT PRESENTATIONS DESIGNED TO MEET VARIOUS COMMUNITY NEEDS BY PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDED SPEAKERS AT NO CLOST TO CLUBS, ORGANIZATIONS, FAITH-BASED GROUPS, SENIOR CENTERS, AND OTHER INTERESTED AUDIENCES. OTHER UNFUNDED COMMUNITY SUPPORT ACTIVITIES INCLUDED VARIOUS EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS OFFERED BY THE AGENCY'S LIAISON STAFF, BEREAVEMENT COUNSELORS, PHYSICIANS AND REGISTERED NURSE PRACTITIONERS. AGENCY STAFF ALSO MET WITH POTENTIAL PATIENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS ON AN UNREIMBURSED BASIS, PROVIDING EDUCATION AND INFORMATION ON HOSPICE AND OTHER HEALTH CARE SUPPORT OPTIONS.BEYOND SERVICES PROVIDED TO HHHPC'S PATIENTS AND FAMILIES, MEMBERS OF THE AGENCY'S LEADERSHIP AND STAFF PROVIDED COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP IN A VARIETY OF WAYS FROM SERVING ON LOCAL NOT-FOR-PROFIT BOARDS AND PARTICIPATING IN OTHER COMMUNITY AND HEALTH FORUMS.AS PART OF ITS WE HONOR VETERAN'S PROGRAM, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES EDUCATION TO STAFF AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS ON THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF VETERAN'S RECEIVING HOSPICE SERVICES.
