TO IDENTIFY, COLLECT, PRESERVE, INTERPRET, AND DISSEMINATE MATERIALS AND INFORMATION PERTAINING TO WYANDOTTE COUNTY KANSAS HISTORY IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE PUBLIC IN UNDERSTANDING, APPRECIATING, AND ASSISTING IN THE PRESERVATION OF THE HERITAGE OF WYANDOTTE COUNTY.

THE HISTORY OF WYANDOTTE COUNTY CAN BE VIEWED IN OUR VAST COLLECTION OF NATIVE AMERICAN ARTIFACTS AND ITEMS FROM LOCAL INDIVIDUALS, BUSINESSES, AND ORGANIZATIONS. IN ADDITION TO OBJECTS, THERE IS AN IMMENSE COLLECTION OF HISTORIC PHOTOGRAPHS, BOOKS, JOURNALS, AND OTHER ARCHIVAL MATERIALS. THE MUSEUM RECENTLY UPDATED TO A NEW DATABASE SYSTEM FOR OUR COLLECTION RECORDS WITH THE GOAL TO HAVE A PUBLICLY SEARCHABLE PLATFORM. RESEARCH IS A BIG PART OF WHAT WE DO, AND WE HAVE INDEXES THAT INCLUDE COUNTY OBITUARIES, WILLS, TAX ROLLS, MARRIAGE LICENSES, AND OTHER BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION. WE HAVE PERMANENT AND TEMPORARY EXHIBITS AND CAN OFFER VIRTUAL MUSEUM TOURS FOR CLASSROOM STUDENTS AND A VIRTUAL 100 YEAR OLD TRUNK THAT FOCUSES ON LIFE IN WYANDOTTE COUNTY IN THE 1920'S. THE CONTENT FOR THIS TRUNK IS SEPARATED INTO SEVEN TOPIC SECTIONS WHICH CAN BE ADAPTED FOR VARIOUS AGE GROUPS WITH MATERIALS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE WEBSITE.
