PROMOTING THE PRESERVATION OF HISTORIC COLONIAL-ERA STRUCTURES IN THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY REGION, AND SHARING THE STORIES OF AMERICA'S FRENCH CREOLE HERITAGE THROUGH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING FOR DIVERSE PUBLIC AUDIENCES.

WE GIVE TOURS AND OFFER PROGRAMS THAT EXPLAIN AND TEACH ABOUT THE HISTORY OF FRENCH COLONIAL AMERICA, PARTICULARLY IN UPPER LOUISIANA AS IT IS ILLUSTRATED BY THE STORY OF STE GENEVIEVE, MISSOURI. OUR PROGRAMS INTRODUCE AUDIENCES OF DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS AND AGE LEVELS TO THE DISTINCTIVE FRENCH VERTICAL TIMBER ARCHITECTURE, THE IMPACT OF SPANISH RULE FROM THE 1760'S TO 1800'S, DAILY LIFE IN THE COLONIAL ERA AND DEVELOPMENT OF A UNIQUE CREOLE CULTURE THAT AROSE AND WAS SUSTAINED IN THIS REGION, WHICH WAS BASED ON THE INTERACTION OF FRENCH COLONISTS WITH NATIVE AMERICANS, AFRICANS AND OTHER CULTURAL GROUPS. IN 2021 FCA SERVED 14,887 VISITORS, HOWEVER, IN 2020 WE ONLY SERVED 7,773 DUE TO COVID-19. FCA'S RESOURCES INCLUDE ACCESS TO ONE OF THE BEST COLLECTIONS OF ORIGINAL FRENCH COLONIAL FURNISHINGS IN NORTH AMERICA, A STAFF OF 11 FULL AND PART-TIME MANAGEMENT CURATORIAL AND EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS, AND A SERIES OF EXPANDING PARTNERSHIPS-BOTH FORMAL AND INFORMAL-WITH OTHER HISTORIC SITES IN STE GENEVIEVE, INCLUDING THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE. IN 2020, FCA RECEIVED FROM THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF COLONIAL DAMES OF AMERICA IN THE STATE OF MISSOURI, FIVE HISTORICAL PROPERTIES AND A MUSEUM. THE MUSEUM HAS HISTORICAL ARTIFACTS ON LOAN FROM THE COLONIAL DAMES FOR VISITORS TO ENJOY AND LEARN ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE AREA.
