Part 3 - Line 1
UNITED SOCCER COACHES PROVIDES PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT ENHANCE, ENCOURAGE, AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND RECOGNITION OF SOCCER COACHES, THEIR PLAYERS, AND THE GAME WE LOVE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
EDUCATION: UNITED SOCCER COACHES PRIDES ITSELF ON PROVIDING AN UNPARALLELED NATIONWIDE PROGRAM OF CLINICS, COURSES, E-LEARNING AND OTHER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES THAT MOTIVATES COACHES TO TAKE THEIR CAREERS AND THE GAME OF SOCCER TO THE NEXT LEVEL. FROM THE NOVICE COACH TO THE WELL-SEASONED COACH, UNITED SOCCER COACHES PROVIDED COMPREHENSIVE INSTRUCTIONAL SESSIONS TO 13,285 COACHES THIS YEAR, WITH COMBINED IN-PERSON AND ONLINE COURSES. THE OUTBREAK OF 2019 CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19), WHICH WAS RECOGNIZED AS A GLOBAL PANDEMIC BY THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION, PROMPTED GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES, BUSINESSES, ORGANIZATIONS, AND NOT-FOR-PROFIT ENTITITES TO IMPLEMENT PREVENTATIVE AND PROTECTIVE MEASURES, INCLUDING HOW BUSINESS ACTIVITIES ARE CONDUCTED. THE PANDEMIC RESULTED IN A WIDESPREAD ECONOMIC DOWNTURN AND CREATED SIGNIFICANT UNCERTAINTY, VOLATILITY AND DISRUPTION IN FINANCIAL AND BUSINESS ACTIVITIES. IN RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC, THE ASSOCIATION HAS TAKEN STEPS TO STRENGTHEN ITS FINANCIAL POSITION AND MAINTAIN LIQUIDITY AND FLEXABILITY. THE ASSOCIATION SCALED BACK ON COSTS BY IMPLEMENTING A 20 PERCENT FURLOUGH FOR STAFF, A HIRING FREEZE ON ALL OPEN POSITIONS, REDUCTIONS TO ALL CONTRACTS, CONTRACTORS, AND LEASES, ELIMINATING ALL TRAVEL TO IN-PERSON COURSES AND MEETINGS, AND REDUCING ALL NON-ESSENTIAL EXPENSES RELATING TO A MEMBER-CENTRIC ASSOCIATION.
CONVENTION: UNITED SOCCER COACHES ENCOURAGES MEMBERS TO INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER AND THE SOCCER COMMUNITY IN OTHER WAYS. THE UNITED SOCCER COACHES CONVENTION ALLOWS ATTENDEES TO NOT ONLY ADD SOMETHING NEW TO THEIR COACHING REPERTOIRE, BUT TO COME TOGETHER AND CELEBRATE THE GAME THAT WE ALL LOVE. THE CONVENTION BRINGS MORE THAN 11,250 MEMBERS OF THE SOCCER COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO EXPERIENCE 200 EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS AND HUNDREDS OF EXHIBITORS. OUR AWARDS PROGRAM CULMINATES AT CONVENTION WITH AN AWARDS CEREMONY AVAILABLE TO OVER 1,200 ALL-AMERICAN PLAYERS AND THEIR COACHES. THIS YEAR'S IN-PERSON 2021 CONVENTION WAS CANCELLED AND PERFORMED ONLINE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE ASSOCIATION'S HISTORY.IN NOVEMBER 2020, THE SBA APPROVED THE ASSOCIATION'S APPLICATION FOR THE ORIGINAL PPP LOAN. IN DECEMBER 2020, THE 2021 ANAHEIM CONVENTION WAS FULLY CANCELLED AS AN IN-PERSON EVENT AND CONVERTED TO AN ONLINE EXPERIENCE. THIS WAS THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION TO MAINTAIN THE COMMITMENT TO OUR MEMBERS, PARTNERS, AND SPONSORS WHILE MAINTAINING THE SAFETY AND HEALTH OF ALL ATTENDEES.
