CAMPAIGN FOR WORKING FAMILIES OFFERED FREE TAX PREPARATION THROUGH ITS VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA) PROGRAM OPERATING TWENTY-FOUR (24) TAX SITES ACROSS THE PHILADELPHIA (17 TAX STIES) AND SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY (7 TAX SITES) REGIONS AND VIRTUAL TAX PREPARATION. CWF FILED MORE THAN 37,819 FEDERAL (21,898) AND STATE (15,921) TAX RETURNS FOR THE 2022 FISCAL YEAR. DURING THE EXTENDED TAX SEASON (MAY TO OCTOBER), CWF OPERATED SIX TAX SITES AND OFFERED ITS VIRTUAL TAX PREPARATION TAX SERVICE. IN THE EXTENDED TAX SEASON, CWF WAS ABLE TO FILE JUST OVER 3200 FEDERAL AND STATE TAX RETURNS. IN ADDITION, TO THE FREE TAX PREPARATION SERVICE CWF PARTNERED WITH THREE LOCAL COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS (COMMUNITY LEGAL SERVICES, BENEFITS DATA TRUSTS AND CLARIFI) TO EXPAND ITS EFFORT IN CONNECTING TAX FILERS TO COMPREHENSIVE RESOURCES (I.E., PUBLIC BENEFITS, FINANCIAL COUNSELING/COACHING, AND LEGAL SERVICES), AND WAS ABLE TO SCREEN AND REFER OVER 3500 INDIVIDUALS TO ITS PARTNERS FOR EXPANDED SERVICES AND SUPPORTS.
FOR THE PAST TWENTY YEARS, THE CAMPAIGN FOR WORKING FAMILIES HAS PROVIDED THOUSANDS OF IRS CERTIFICATIONS TO STUDENTS, PROFESSIONALS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. THE IRS CERTIFICATION IS AN INDUSTRY RECOGNIZED CREDENTIAL BY THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND HAS SERVED IN BEING INSTRUMENTAL IN SUPPORTING STUDENTS SECURE VALUABLE INTERNSHIPS AND EMPLOYMENT, PROFESSIONALS (I.E., LAWYERS, ACCOUNTANTS, ETC.) ACQUIRE CONTINUING EDUCATION (CEU) CREDITS TO KEEP/MAINTAIN THEIR LICENSE(S) AND CREDENTIAL(S), AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT GAIN CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE TO SUPPORT THEIR OWN FINANCIAL GOALS. DURING THE 2022 TAX SEASON CWF WAS ABLE TO CONDUCT 76 TRAININGS (228 HOURS OF TRAINING) PROVIDING OVER 320 IRS CERTIFICATIONS, WHERE MORE THAN 220 VOLUNTEERS WERE ABLE TO INVEST OVER 13,000 HOURS IN PROVIDING FREE TAX PREPARATION SERVICES THAT BROUGHT BACK OVER $34 MILLION DOLLARS BACK INTO THE POCKETS OF HARDWORKING INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES.
