THE GOODWILL EXCEL CENTER (GEC) PROVIDES ADULT LEARNERS IN WASHINGTON, DC WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO EARN A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA. GEC IS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN THE DISTRICT AND STUDENTS EARN THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND CAREER CREDENTIALS AND HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN COLLEGE CREDIT TOO. GEC FILLS THE GAP BETWEEN TRADITIONAL HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS THAT RESULT IN A GED. GEC BUILDS UPON A PROVEN MODEL THAT WAS FOUNDED IN INDIANA AND SERVES STUDENTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN OVER NINE STATES NATIONALLY. GEC SEEKS TO PROVIDE TRAINING AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT YET EARNED THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA. GEC OPENED IN 2016 AND IN SY 21-22 SERVED 424 STUDENTS. AT THE END OF SY 21-22, GEC HAD 485 GRADUATES TO DATE. IN ADDITION TO CORE ACADEMIC PROGRAMMING, GEC OFFERS COACHING TO SUPPORT STUDENTS DURING THEIR JOURNEY AND BUILDS STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH STUDENTS TO TRULY PROVIDE A HOLISTIC APPROACH. GEC ALSO OPERATES A FULLY LICENSED CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER IN THE SCHOOL, WHICH IS OPERATED BY THE YMCA AND PROVIDES STUDENTS WHO HAVE CHILDREN SIX WEEKS OLD TO 3 YEARS OLD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENROLL THEIR CHILD TOO. GEC ENROLLS STUDENT MULTIPLE TIMES A YEAR THROUGH ITS 5, 8-WEEK TERMS.
