THE PUGET SOUND VETERANS HOPE CENTER (PSVHC) IS A NONPROFIT 501(C)(3) VETERANS ORGANIZATION OPERATED BY VETERANS WHOSE MISSION IS TO SERVE HOMELESS VETERANS AND THEIR ASSOCIATED FAMILIES MEMBERS. THEY DO THIS BY PROVIDING IMMEDIATE EMERGENCY HOUSING, SUPPLIES AND SERVICES, MEDICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH REFERRALS, EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING ASSISTANCE; FOOD AND TRANSPORTATION SUPPORT TO AND FROM THE VA HOSPITAL. THE PSVHC OPERATES AND MANAGES A CLEAN AND SOBER 10 BED SLEEPING ROOM DESIGNATED FOR HOMELESS VETERANS IN NEED OF IMMEDIATE SHELTER AT THE TACOMA RESCUE MISSION (TRM). THE 1ST PHASE OF THE PROGRAM SHORT TERM SHELTER HAS PROVEN TO BE SUCCESSFUL. OPERATING WITH THE PHILOSOPHY OF IMMEDIATE HOUSING/SHELTER, PSVHC HAS BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE OVER 450 HOMELESS VETERANS WITH A PLACE TO SLEEP, BUS PASSES, REFERRALS TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES, CLOTHING AND HYGIENE SUPPLIES. PROGRAM SERVICES PROVIDE STABILITY, CONSISTENCY AND SUPPORT WHICH ALLOW THE VETERANS TO FOCUS LESS ON LIVING DEFENSIVELY BY BEING CONCERNED WITH THEIR NEXT SLEEPING LOCATION, MEAL AND HOW TO PROTECT WHAT LITTLE BELONGINGS THEY POSSESS BUT RATHER PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE PROACTIVE.
