WE EXIST TO ENSURE THE WORLD'S KEY DECISION MAKERS CONSISTENTLY AND ROUTINELY TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE FULL VALUE OF NATURE AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIVITIES ON NATURAL SYSTEMS, THEREBY AVERTING ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DISRUPTIONS DUE TO THE MISMANAGEMENT OF NATURAL CAPITAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL RISK. WE WILL DELIVER THIS BY CREATING A PLATFORM TO ENABLE EASY-TO-USE, INEXPENSIVE, SCIENTIFICALLY CREDIBLE, CONTINUOUSLY UPDATED GLOBAL INFORMATION ON NATURAL RESOURCES, COUPLED WITH THE CREATION OF POWERFUL AND RELEVANT DECISION-SUPPORT TOOLS. THE EARTHRISE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON ENSURING THE BROAD AVAILABILITY OF SATELLITE IMAGERY TO TRACK ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES ON THE PLANET. IT AIMS TO CREATE A NEW SOCIAL AWARENESS OF PLANETARY CHANGE. RECENT WORK HAS INCLUDED GLOBAL PLASTICS WATCH AND CLIMATE TRACE.
THE WATER PROGRAM CONTINUED WITH WORK IN MULTIPLE GEOGRAPHIES AND FOCUS AREAS. MOST NOTABLY, IN 2021 WE CONTINUED OUR GRAT (GROUNDWATER RECHARGE ASSESSMENT TOOL) WORK WITH THE BROADER TEAM LED BY CA DWR. THE OBJECTIVE OF GRAT IS TO DEFINE THE BEST AVAILABLE LOCATIONS (SPATIAL) AND TIMING (TEMPORAL) FOR THE RECHARGE OF UNDERLYING GROUNDWATER AQUIFERS. THIS TYPE OF GROUNDWATER RECHARGE IS A KEY SOLUTION WITHIN CALIFORNIA TO ADDRESS THE UNDERLYING DROUGHT CONDITIONS CONSISTENT WITH THE SUSTAINABLE GROUNDWATER MANAGEMENT ACT.
