MILE IN MY SHOES CONNECTS RUNNERS FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS TO BUILD COMMUNITY, SUPPORT HEALTH AND WELLNESS AMONG THOSE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS AND SPARK SOCIAL AWARENESS. WE RUN TOGETHER TO CHANGE PERCEPTIONS AND CHANGE LIVES.

MILE IN MY SHOES IS ANCHORED BY FIVE RUNNING TEAMS BASED AT RECOVERY PROGRAMS AND RE-ENTRY CENTERS ACROSS THE TWIN CITIES AREA. MIMS TEAMS RUN 2-3 TIMES PER WEEK, WITH RUNS STARTING FROM EACH SHELTER OR HOUSING FACILITY. THERE ARE TWO CYCLES PER YEAR, EACH LASTING 4.5 MONTHS. THE MIMS SEASON BEGINS IN MARCH AND ENDS IN NOVEMBER. MIMS OUTFITS ALL NEW RUNNERS WITH FULL RUNNING GEAR AND SHOES, AND COVERS THE COST FOR ANY TRAINING AND RACE EXPENSES THROUGHOUT THE SEASON. MEMBERS ALSO RECEIVE INCENTIVES AS THEY HIT VARIOUS MILESTONES, INCLUDING ADDITIONAL GEAR AND RACE ENTRIES. DURING 2021, MIMS HAD 125 "RESIDENT MEMBER" PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS START RUNNING WITH OUR TEAMS AS WELL AS APPROXIMATELY 100 VOLUNTEER RUN MENTORS. MILE IN MY SHOES' POSITIVE OUTCOMES FOR 2021 INCLUDE: 85% OF RESIDENT MEMBERS REPORT IMPROVED HEALTH AFTER PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM. 96% OF RESIDENT MEMBERS FEEL MORE CONNECTED TO THEIR COMMUNITY AFTER RUNNING WITH MILE IN MY SHOES. 95% OF VOLUNTEER RUN MENTORS FEEL MORE MOTIVATED TO DO MORE FOR, OR WITH, PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS, IN RECOVERY OR EXITING INCARCERATION.
