SUPPORT CHILDREN WITH DIABETES IN SOUTH CAROLINA THROUGH DIABETES CAMPING OPPORTUNITES, SCHOOL SUPPORT PROGRAMS, AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER AGENCIES WITH THE GOAL TO ENGAGE, ENCOURAGE, EMPOWER, AND INSPIRE DIABETIC CHILDREN TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

Part 3 - Line 4a

SERVED 200 CHILDREN WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES AND 73 VOLUNTEERS IN 2 SUMMER CAMPING OPPORTUNITES IN SOUTH CAROLINA IN 2021. ATTENDANCE ALLOWED THESE CHILDREN TO ENJOY A SUMMER CAMP IN A MEDICALLY SAFE ENVIRONMENT WHILE BUILDING THEIR KNOWLEDGE, COMFORT, AND INDEPENDENCE WITH DIABETES MANAGEMENT. APPROXIMATELY 70% OF CAMPERS RECEIVED SCHOLARSHIPS TO ATTEND. THE SCHOOL SUPPORT PROGRAM WAS SUSPENDED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, BUT WILL RESUME IN 2022 OR 2023, TO PROVIDE DIABETES EDUCATION TO SCHOOL NURSES THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH MID-CAROLINA AHEC.
