ADVANCING SCIENCE: EVERMORE DEVELOPS ITS POLICIES, PROGRAMS AND SYSTEM CHANGE PRIORITIES BASED ON STATE-OF-THE-ART SCIENCE. EVERMORE DEVELOPED THE NATION'S FIRST FACTS & FIGURES FOR BEREAVEMENT. THE DOCUMENT SYNTHESIZES THE STATE OF BEREAVEMENT SCIENCE, THE IMPLICATIONS OF DEATH FOR BEREAVED PARENTS, CHILDREN, SIBLINGS, AND SPOUSES. IT HAS BEEN CITED IN CONGRESSIONAL TESTIMONY, U.S. APPROPRIATIONS, AT GRIEF CENTERS AND BY MANY OTHER BEREAVEMENT ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE NATION. IN ADDITION, EVERMORE ESTABLISHED A SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COUNCIL COMPOSED OF SOME OF THE NATION'S MOST DISTINGUISHED AND RESPECTED GRIEF AND BEREAVEMENT EXPERTS.
ADVANCING POLICY AND SYSTEMS CHANGE: EVERMORE CREATED AND LED A NATIONAL COALITION THAT SUCCESSFULLY INCLUDED PAID BEREAVEMENT LEAVE IN PRESIDENT BIDEN'S DOMESTIC POLICY AGENDA, THE AMERICAN FAMILIES PLAN. PAID BEREAVEMENT LEAVE REMAINED IN THE INITIAL VERSIONS OF BUILD BACK BETTER BUT WAS REMOVED BY HOUSE LEADERSHIP IN THE FINAL BILL. ADDITIONALLY, EVERMORE WORKED WITH BOTH DEMOCRATIC AND REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL OFFICES TO INCLUDE TWO BEREAVEMENT PROVISIONS AS PART OF THE U.S. APPROPRIATIONS PROCESS FOR FY22. THE FIRST PROVISION ENCOURAGES KEY HHS AGENCIES TO EXAMINE WHAT THEY ARE DOING, IF ANYTHING, TO ADVANCE BEREAVEMENT CARE FOR THE NATION. THE SECOND PROVISION STRONGLY ENCOURAGES CDC TO INCLUDE BEREAVEMENT QUESTIONS IN THEIR ANNUAL STATE HEALTH SURVEYS, AS WELL AS A SPECIFIC SECTION ONLY FOCUSED ON BEREAVEMENT IN THEIR ANNUAL HEALTH 2022 REPORT TO THE NATION.
ADVANCING PUBLIC AWARENESS AND ENGAGEMENT:EVERMORE CONTINUES TO BUILD PUBLIC AWARENESS THROUGH CELEBRITY, MEDIA, AND VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT. EVERMORE HOSTED A DIGITAL SUMMIT FEATURING KEY THOUGHT LEADERS INCLUDING: KEN FEINBERG, CINDY MCCAIN, MAYA ROCKEYMOORE CUMMINGS, ACADEMY AWARD WINNERS CASEY AFFLECK AND ELLEN BURSTYN, ACADEMY AWARD NOMINEE VANESSA KIRBY AND MANY OTHERS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF BEREAVEMENT AS A SIGNIFICANT SOCIAL AND PUBLIC HEALTH PROBLEM. FEINBERG ALSO SPOKE WITH SCOTT SIMON ON NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO'S "WEEKEND EDITION SATURDAY" LATER THAT MONTH ADVOCATING FOR A NEW WHITE HOUSE OFFICE OF BEREAVEMENT SPEARHEADED BY EVERMORE TO HELP AMERICANS GRIEVING LOSS FROM COVID-19 AND OTHER TRAGEDIES. ADDITIONALLY, EVERMORE WORKED WITH VOLUNTEERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY ON PAID BEREAVEMENT LEAVE MEASURES WITHIN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND EMPLOYERS.
