IN 2019, RECLAIM NEW YORK INCREASED ITS TRAININGS AND STRENGTHENED ITS ENGAGEMENT WITH CITIZENS ACROSS THE STATE TO DRIVE AWARENESS ABOUT THE STATE'S AFFORDABILITY CRISIS AND CORRUPTION EPIDEMIC. BY EMPOWERING CITIZENS WITH COST-OF-LIVING DATA AND THE BENEFITS GOVERNMENT PROVIDES IN RETURN, NEW YORKERS ARE EMPOWERED TO PUSH FOR MORE EFFECTIVE GOVERNANCE. THIS INCLUDES THE PRACTICE SOME LOCAL GOVERNMENTS HAVE BEEN USING TO PAD BUDGETS: ILLEGAL FEES. RECLAIM CONTINUES TO RAISE AWARENESS IN LOCALITIES THAT ARE USING ILLEGAL FEES TO PLAY A BACK-DOOR ROLE OF REVENUE CREATION. RECLAIM CONTINUES ITS PUSH FOR CITIZEN-DRIVEN OVERSIGHT, TO SOLVE THE CONSISTENT BREAKDOWNS IN GOVERNANCE FACING NEW YORK. AS MORE CITIZENS BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY AT THE LOCAL LEVEL, CITIZENS ARE TAKING ACTION TO CONDUCT ONLINE TRANSPARENCY, ASSESSMENTS OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS, VILLAGES, TOWN, AND COUNTIES. BY PUSHING FOR MORE CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT, PUBLIC OFFICIALS SEEING THE VALUE IN PROACTIVE TRANSPARENCY, ULTIMATELY INCREASING THE ATTENTION PAID TO RESPONSIVE GOVERNANCE. NEW YORK REMAINS ONE OF THE LARGEST PRODUCERS OF CORPORATE CRONYISM WITH BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN GIVEAWAYS EACH YEAR. THESE FAILED ATTEMPTS TO ATTRACT CORPORATIONS LEAD TO THE VAST MAJORITY OF SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS FAILING TO SEE VALUSE IN THIS APPROACH OT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. RECLAIMHAS EXPOSED THIS PRACTICE AND CONTINUES TO ILLUSTRATE HOW MORE EQUITABLE AND EFFECTIVE POLICIES ARE ALLOWING OTHER STATES TO GROW THEIR ECONOMIES IN SUSTAINABLE WAYS.
