OUR MISSION IS TWOFOLD: 1 HELP SMALL BUSINESSES - ESPECIALLY MINORITY AND WOMAN OWNED - DEVELOP TO BETTER BE ABLE TO DO WORK IN TRANSPORTATION AND CONSTRUCTION AND 2 HELP GIRLS DISCOVER SUSTAINABLE CAREERS IN TRANSPORTATION AND CONSTRUCTION. MINORITY AND WOMEN OWNED BUSINESSES TRADITIONALLY GET LESS THAN 12 OF THE WORK ON PUBLIC CONSTRUCTION AND TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS. WOMEN ARE ONLY 8 OF THE CONSTRUCTION WORKFORCE. US DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION - WEST CENTRAL SMALL BUSINESS TRANSPORTATION RESOURCE CENTER. THE HOYA FOUNDATION MANAGES THIS FEDERAL GRANT FROM THE US DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO ASSIST SMALL DISADVANTAGED BUSINESSES IN BUILDING THEIR CAPACITY TO BID ON AND PERFORM ON TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICE PROCUREMENTS. THIS GRANT COVERS A 5 STATE AREA - COLORADO, WYOMING, UTAH, NEBRASKA AND SOUTH DAKOTA. THE HOYA FOUNDATION PROVIDES OUTREACH, WORK WITH STATE AGENCIES, BUILDING BUSINESS CAPACITY COACHING FOR SMALL BUSINESSES AND BONDING EDUCATION PROGRAMS.
TRANSPORTATION AND CONSTRUCTION GIRL IS COMMITTED TO EXPANDING CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG WOMEN, SUPPORTING EQUITY FOR YOUNG WOMEN, ENHANCING YOUNG WOMEN'S SELF-ESTEEM AND HELPING TO MEET THE WORKFORCE SHORTAGE IN CONSTRUCTION. TRANSPORTATION AND CONSTRUCTION GIRL DAY STARTS WITH FUN AND COOL EXHIBITS FROM 8:30AM - 11:30AM. THE HOYA FOUNDATION PRESENTS 4 SCHOLARSHIPS AND HONORS THE YOUNG GIRLS WHO GRADUATED FROM CAREER DAYS FOR GIRLS. GIRLS ARE SEATED WITH SPONSORS SO THAT THEY CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT THE BUSINESS OF CONSTRUCTION AND CREATE CONNECTIONS THAT CAN SUPPORT THEM THROUGH THEIR CAREERS.
