FRIENDS OF UPLAND ANIMAL SHELTER INC WAS FORMED IN ORDER TO SUPPLEMENT THE STAFFING AND PUBLIC FUNDING OF UPLAND ANIMAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED FUNDING AND VOLUNTEER LABOR TO OPERATE THE UPLAND ANIMAL SHELTER IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF UPLAND. VOLUNTEER LABOR UTILIZED TO ASSIST WITH THE CLEANING, TRAINING, EVALUATION, SOCIALIZATION, AND ADOPTION OF HOMELESS PETS FROM THE UPLAND ANIMAL SHELTER TO MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC. IT ALSO PROVIDES CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC RELATED TO ANIMAL CARE AND RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP. IN ADDITION, IT PROVIDES LABOR TO ASSIST WITH OFFSITE ANIMAL ADOPTION EVENTS AND STAFFING THE EVENTS TO INCREASE THE ADOPTION RATE OF HOMELESS ANIMALS FROM UPLAND.
THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES A SECOND HAND THRIFT STORE CALLED 2ND CHANCE THRIFT SHOP. THE STORE RECEIVES DONATED AND GENTLY USED GOODS FROM THE COMMUNITY. ALL GOODS SOLD AT THE STORE ARE DONATED BY THE PUBLIC, WITH A DONATION VALUE OF APPROXIMATELY 50% OF THE THRIFT STORE'S REVENUE OF THE YEAR. THE STORE MARKETS AND SELLS THOSE GOODS TO THE PUBLIC. THE NET PROCEEDS FROM THE OPERATION ARE USED TO FUND THE PRIMARY PROGRAM OF PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY CARE TO HOMELESS PETS AT THE UPLAND ANIMAL SHELTER BY PROVIDING MEDICAL CARE, ENVIRONMENTAL ENRICHMENT, FOOD, AND OTHER NECESSITIES.
