KABANC IS COMPRISED OF 7 COMMITTEES THAT ENDEAVOR TO INVOLVE THE LEGAL COMMUNITY IN THE BAY AREA TO ASSIST, ENGAGE, AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE LOCAL KOREAN AND KOREAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY.1. MENTORSHIP COMMITTEEKABANC'S MENTORSHIP COMMITTEE IS DESIGNED TO CREATE MENTORSHIP PODS/FAMILIES OF BAY AREA KABANC LAW STUDENTS, JUNIOR ATTORNEYS, AND SENIOR ATTORNEYS WHO ARE MEMBERS OF KABANC. THE PROGRAM IS INTENDED TO: (1) FOSTER RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN KABANC LAW STUDENTS AND BOTH JUNIOR AND SENIOR ATTORNEYS, PROVIDING THE STUDENT WITH A VARIETY OF PERSPECTIVES ON LAW SCHOOL, THE BAR, AND THE PRACTICE OF LAW; AND (2) FOSTER RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN MORE EXPERIENCED ATTORNEYS AND JUNIOR ATTORNEYS WHO MAY BE NEW TO THE PRACTICE OR WHO ARE TRAVERSING THE CRITICAL FIRST FEW YEARS OF PRACTICE AND WOULD GAIN FROM THE GUIDANCE.2. MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEEKABANC'S MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE IS DESIGNED TO TRACK AND INCREASE KABANC MEMBERSHIP BY BUILDING STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH ITS MEMBERS AND THE LEGAL COMMUNITY. ALONGSIDE THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE (BELOW), THE KABANC MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE HANDLES THE KABANC WEBSITE AND THE ORGANIZATION'S SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE. 3. SOCIAL COMMITTEEKABANC'S SOCIAL COMMITTEE STRIVES TO FOSTER RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN KABANC MEMBERS AND AFFILIATE ORGANIZATIONS. WE BELIEVE THAT BUILDING STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN THE LEGAL COMMUNITY NURTURES PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL GROWTH, AND WE STRIVE TO ENSURE THAT OUR KABANC MEMBERS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP THESE RELATIONSHIPS. AS PART OF THIS GOAL, THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE ORGANIZES A NUMBER OF EVENTS, INCLUDING MIXERS, JOINT EVENTS WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS, OUR ANNUAL GALA, AND VARIOUS OTHER OUTINGS.4. SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEEKABANC STRIVES TO SERVE THE KOREAN AMERICAN AND BROADER COMMUNITY, BY EDUCATING THE KOREAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY ABOUT LEGAL AND OTHER ISSUES OF INTEREST WHICH IMPACT OUR COMMUNITY. ALIGNED WITH THIS MISSION, EVERY YEAR, KABANC'S SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE UNDERTAKES THE CRITICAL ROLE OF REVIEWING APPLICATIONS FOR THE ANNUAL BAR STUDY SCHOLARSHIP OF THE "KABANC FOUNDATION" (A SEPARATE ENTITY AND 501(C)(3)), INTERVIEWING AND SELECTING A CANDIDATE WHO HAS DEMONSTRATED STRONG ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, LEADERSHIP AND COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY SERVICE, PARTICULARLY TO THE KOREAN AND KOREAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY AND OTHER DIVERSE COMMUNITIES. THE SCHOLARSHIP IS AWARDED BY THE KABANC FOUNDATION FROM DONATIONS MADE TO KABANC FOUNDATION AT THE ANNUAL KABANC GALA.5. PRO BONO COMMITTEEKABANC ENCOURAGES ITS MEMBERS TO VOLUNTEER AT LOCAL LEGAL OUTREACH PROGRAMS AND CLINICS. MANY ASIAN AMERICANS, INCLUDING KOREAN AMERICANS, IN THE BAY AREA CANNOT AFFORD LEGAL SERVICES. THE KABANC PRO BONO COMMITTEE HOSTS AT LEAST TWO (2) PRO BONO CLINICS PER YEAR IN THE BAY AREA.6. ENDORSEMENT COMMITTEETHE PURPOSE OF THE KABANC ENDORSEMENTS COMMITTEE IS TO PROMOTE THE APPOINTMENT OF QUALIFIED JUDICIAL CANDIDATES TO THE FEDERAL AND STATE JUDICIARY AND OTHER GOVERNMENTAL POSITIONS WHO HAVE DEMONSTRATED A COMMITMENT TO THE ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN COMMUNITY OR TO ANY OTHER MINORITY OR DISENFRANCHISED GROUP. WE EVALUATE POTENTIAL CANDIDATES AS WELL AS IDENTIFY AND ENCOURAGE QUALIFIED ASIAN AMERICANS TO APPLY FOR JUDICIAL POSITIONS. KABANC'S JUDICIAL ENDORSEMENTS COMMITTEE ACTIVELY SEEKS OUT WORTHY CANDIDATES FOR NOMINATION AND ENDORSEMENTS AND WELCOMES INQUIRIES ABOUT THE JUDICIAL APPLICATION PROCESS OR REQUEST FOR ENDORSEMENT. 7. WOMEN'S COMMITTEETHE GOAL OF THE KABANC WOMEN'S COMMITTEE IS TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT THE CAREER ADVANCEMENT AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF FEMALE ATTORNEYS. THE COMMITTEE SEEKS TO PROVIDE WOMEN WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO NETWORK AS WELL AS ADVOCATE FOR GREATER REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN THE LEGAL FIELD. SUMMARY OF KABANC'S ANNUAL ACTIVITIES:1. ORGANIZE 2 MENTORSHIP MIXERS FOR ITS MEMBERS.2. ORGANIZE 3 TO 4 MIXERS OR NETWORKING EVENTS AND ADDITIONAL (3 TO 4) EVENTS ARE CO-HOSTED OR CO-SPONSORED WITH OTHER MINORITY BAR ORGANIZATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATIONS.3. ORGANIZE OUTREACH TO LAW STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN KABANC, NETWORKING, AND MENTORING. 4. ORGANIZE MIXERS FOR THE WOMEN'S COMMITTEE (USUALLY ONE OR NONE PER YEAR).5. BOARD MEMBERS TRY TO MEET FOR MONTHLY BOARD MEETINGS.6. KABANC ORGANIZES AN ANNUAL GALA TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE BAR ASSOCIATION AS WELL AS FOR AFFILIATED 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION-THE KABANC FOUNDATION-THAT AWARDS A BAR STUDY SCHOLARSHIP TO A LAW SCHOOL STUDENT.
