A CONSORTIUM OF TIER-ONE MELANOMA RESEARCHERS HAVE JOINED TOGETHER TO FORM THIS BANK. THE PARTICIPATING INSTITUTIONS WILL POOL THEIR TISSUE AND DATA IN A "VIRTUAL" TISSUE BANK. THE MELANOMA RESEARCHERS AT THESE INSTITUTIONS WILL RECEIVE TISSUE ON A PRIORITY BASIS FOR THEIR INSTITUTIONALLY REVIEWED RESEARCH PROJECTS. MELANOMA TISSUE BANK CONSORTIUM IS CREATED TO PROVIDE TISSUE FOR FUNDAMENTAL PUBLIC AND PRIVATE RESEARCH.

IN 2021, MELANOMA TISSUE BANK CONSORTIUM (MTBC) RECEIVED $275,000 IN DONATIONS FUNDED BY AIM AT MELANOMA IN THE AMOUNT OF $250,000 AND BY SKIN OF STEEL IN THE AMOUNT OF $25,000. AIM AT MELANOMA AND SKIN OF STEEL ARE NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD TO POOL RESOURCES IN ORDER TO FUND THIS INSTITUTION. DURING THE 2021 TAX YEAR, FUNDS WERE SPENT TO ORGANIZE THE ENTITY TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL AND STATE REQUIREMENTS. FUNDS RELATED TO A GRANT TO THE CALIFORNIA PACIFIC MEDICAL CENTER (CPMC) FOR START UP FEES AND TO COLLECT SAMPLES WERE DESIGNATED FOR DISBURSEMENT IN 2021 ALTHOUGH ACTUAL PAYMENT DID NOT OCCUR UNTIL EARLY 2022..IN 2021, OREGON HEALTH & SCIENCE UNIVERSITY (OHSU) AND UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH MEDICAL CENTER (UPMC) COLLECTED TISSUE.ALSO IN 2021, DISCUSSIONS AND PRELIMINARY NEXT STEPS HAVE BEEN TAKING PLACE IN ORDER TO OPEN THE TWO SITES OF THE TISSUE BANK IN AUSTRALIA AND TO START COLLECTING TISSUE. MTBC ANTICIPATES GRANTING SIGNIFICANT FUNDS TO CONTINUE COLLECTING TISSUE SAMPLES AT CPMC AS WELL AS FOR START UP FEES AND TISSUE COLLECTION FOR THE 3 REMAINING SITES IN THE USA AND FOR OPENING 2 SITES IN AUSTRALIA.
