STEPS OF LOVE IS A U.S.-BASED NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION WITH A MISSION TO PROVIDE YOUNG PEOPLE IN MEXICO WITH A PATH OUT OF POVERTY THROUGH EDUCATION.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS - STEPS OF LOVE PARTNERS WITH ASISTENCIA INTEGRAL PARA MENORES DE PUERTO PEÑASCO (AIM PEÑASCO), A MEXICAN CIVIL ASSOCIATION IN PUERTO PEÑASCO, MEXICO, WHICH DEVELOPS AND OPERATES PROGRAMS THAT EMPOWER YOUTH THROUGH EDUCATION. STEPS OF LOVE PROVIDES PROGRAM AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT, AS WELL AS FINANCIAL SUPPORT THAT FUNDS TUITION, REGISTRATION, EXAM FEES, UNIFORMS, BOOKS, AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES, AS WELL AS HOMEWORK CLUBS. IN 2021, AIM PEÑASCO OPERATED SEVEN HOMEWORK CLUBS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY TO PROVIDE AT-RISK STUDENTS WITH ACADEMIC SUPPORT AND ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY REQUIRED FOR REMOTE LEARNING. DURING 2021 STEPS OF LOVE ALSO PROVIDED FUNDING FOR STUDENT LUNCHES AND EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AT THESE CLUBS. IN 2021 THE PROGRAM PROVIDED SUPPORT FOR OVER 800 YOUTH IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH COLLEGE.


FOUNDATIONAL NEEDS - STEPS OF LOVE ASSISTS AIM PEÑASCO IN MEETING THE BASIC NEEDS OF THE FAMILIES AND YOUTH THEY SERVE. THIS ALLOWS STUDENTS TO REMAIN PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY AND HAVE A BETTER CHANCE TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL AND REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. STEPS OF LOVE PROVIDES FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES TO RECEIVE FOOD, SAFE DRINKING WATER, PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES, AND MEDICAL AND DENTAL SERVICES ON AN AS NEEDED BASIS. ADDITIONALLY, STEPS OF LOVE HELPS CULTIVATE VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST WITH HOME REPAIRS, MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE, CLOTHING/FOOD DONATIONS, AND MORE. TYPICALLY, STEPS OF LOVE WORKS WITH OVER 300 VOLUNTEERS FROM GROUPS IN BOTH THE U.S. AND MEXICO INCLUDING ROTARY, KIWANIS, AND LIONS CLUBS, CHURCHES, UNIVERSITIES, AND OTHER ADVOCACY GROUPS. IN 2021, VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY WAS SEVERELY LIMITED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC; HOWEVER, A SMALL NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS WERE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE.


CENTER FOR ATTENTION AND THERAPIES FOR CHILDREN (CATI PROGRAM) - IN JANUARY OF 2021 STEPS OF LOVE BEGAN SUPPORTING A NEW PROGRAM DEVELOPED BY AIM PENASCO TO SERVE STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS IN THE COMMUNITY. THE PROGRAM INITIALLY SUPPORTED 17 STUDENTS AND GREW TO SUPPORTING 34 STUDENTS BY THE END OF 2021. THE CATI PROGRAM PROVIDES YOUNG PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES WITH MUCH NEEDED OCCUPATIONAL AND PHYSICAL THERAPIES AS WELL AS SPECIAL EDUCATION AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT. STEPS OF LOVE IS PROVIDING FUNDING FOR THIS PROGRAM AS WELL AS SPEECH THERAPY SERVICES THROUGH AN AFFILIATION WITH THE ASU COLLEGE OF HEALTH SOLUTIONS. IN 2021 THE ASU SPEECH AND HEARING CLINIC PROVIDED WEEKLY SPEECH THERAPY SERVICES, TOOLS, AND TRAINING FOR PARENTS AND CATI TEAM MEMBERS.
