Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
GIVENKIND SOURCES AND EFFICIENTLY REDISTRIBUTES EXCESS GOODS IN THE ECONOMY TO LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO FILL NEEDS IN OUR COMMUNITY. NONPROFITS RECEIVE NEEDED ITEMS THAT SUPPORT THEIR PROGRAMS AND DIVERTING QUALITY GOODS AWAY FROM LANDFILLS REDUCES THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ON ALL OF US. USABLE GOODS DON?T BELONG IN LANDFILLS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THOSE GOODS FILL A NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
IN 2021, GIVENKIND?S PROGRAMS MOVED GOODS FROM WHERE THEY WEREN?T NEEDED TO WHERE THEY WERE, RESULTING IN THE RESPONSIBLE PLACEMENT OF $7.5 MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF GOODS WITH LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO BENEFIT THEIR COMMUNITIES. GIVENKIND OPERATES RESOURCE REDISTRIBUTION CENTERS IN ILLINOIS AND PENNSYLVANIA TO INTAKE BULK QUANTITIES OF NEW GOODS FOR DISTRIBUTION TO COMMUNITIES IN NEED THROUGH OUR NONPROFIT PARTNERS. GOODS CANNOT BE SOLD OR USED FOR FUNDRAISING, ENSURING THAT GOODS DIRECTLY BENEFIT AREA RESIDENTS. GOODS ARE OFTEN USED AS INCENTIVES TO ENCOURAGE PARTICIPANTS TO COMPLETE EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING PROGRAMS WHICH IMPROVES THE EFFECTIVENESS OF NONPROFIT PROGRAMS. OUR OPERATIONS ARE ORGANIZED AND EFFICIENT, ELIMINATING BARRIERS THAT MAY DISCOURAGE BUSINESSES TO DONATE. THE GIVENKIND CENTERS SERVE NONPROFITS THROUGHOUT THEIR RESPECTIVE REGIONS; BASED ON INFORMED ESTIMATES, WE BELIEVE OUR DONATION PROGRAM IMPACTS OVER 35,000 INDIVIDUALS THROUGH OUR OVER 200 ACTIVE NONPROFIT PARTNERSHIPS. THESE NONPROFITS REPRESENT THE BROAD SPECTRUM OF SOCIAL SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS AND SERVE VETERANS, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS, FOSTER CHILDREN, FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOUSING AND FOOD INSECURITY, EDUCATION AND JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS, ANIMAL WELFARE PROGRAMS AND MORE. AS A RESULT OF OUR REDISTRIBUTION PROGRAM, MORE NONPROFITS BENEFIT FROM EACH PRODUCT DONATION RECEIVED. GIVENKIND HAS A TEAM OF DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS WHO PLACE DONATIONS DIRECTLY WITH NONPROFITS IN LOCATIONS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. GIVENKIND VOLUNTEERS MATCH THE SPECIFIC DONATION TO A NONPROFIT PARTNER BASED ON THEIR SIZE, POPULATION THEY SERVE, AND PROXIMITY TO THE DONATION SITE. GIVENKIND BELIEVES RESOURCES SHOULD BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED, NOT SHIPPED ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO BENEFIT ANOTHER COMMUNITY. THE PROGRAM IS HIGHLY IMPACTFUL AND HELPS US TO MAINTAIN PARTNERSHIPS WITH NATIONAL DISTRIBUTORS HEADQUARTERED IN ILLINOIS THAT RESULTS IN MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF GOODS FOR THE GIVENKIND CENTER IN MUNDELEIN. GIVENKIND IS ONE PART OF THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY THAT COMMUNITIES WILL NEED TO ADOPT IN THE FUTURE. A LINEAR ECONOMY THAT EXTRACTS RESOURCES FROM THE EARTH, TURNS THEM INTO PRODUCTS, AND THEN THROWS THEM AWAY AS WASTE IS NO LONGER SUSTAINABLE. GIVENKIND IS ONE PART OF THE SOLUTION, CIRCULATING PRODUCTS AND MATERIALS IN RESPONSIBLE WAYS TO EXTRACT THE MOST USE OUT OF ITEMS THAT ARE PRODUCED. THERE ARE MANY PARTS TO OTHER CIRCULAR ECONOMY THAT NEED TO BE BUILT, BUT GIVENKIND?S PROGRAMS ARE DOING THEIR PART NOW FOR A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.
