SMCWC - CROSSROADS HOUSING INC. ("CROSSROADS") PROVIDES SHELTER, FOOD, AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO FAMILIES WHO ARE HOMELESS, FORMERLY HOMELESS, OR OTHERWISE STRUGGLING TO MEET BASIC NEEDS. CROSSROADS' CORE SERVICE IS PROVIDING FAMILY SHELTER, STABILIZATION, AND RELATED SUPPORT UNDER CONTRACT WITH THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (DHCD). CROSSROADS MAINTAINS SHELTER UNITS, INCLUDING CONGREGATE UNITS AT ITS MAIN FACILITY AND SCATTERED SITE SHELTER UNITS IN ITS LEASED APARTMENTS IN THE COMMUNITY. CONTRACTED SHELTER AND STABILIZATION SERVICES INCLUDE 24 HOUR DIRECT SUPPORT SERVICES CONDUCTED BY FAMILY ADVOCATES; CASE MANAGERS; AND HOUSING SEARCH SPECIALISTS. IN ADDITION TO ITS CORE SERVICES, CROSSROADS OPERATES A FOOD PANTRY FOR EAST BOSTON RESIDENTS FUNDED THROUGH A GRANT FROM PROJECT BREAD/WALK FOR HUNGER AND INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS. A PART-TIME FOOD SERVICE COORDINATOR DISTRIBUTES FOOD BAGS TWICE PER WEEK; LOW-INCOME RESIDENTS MAY ACCESS THE PANTRY ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS. CROSSROADS IS ALSO PILOTING A SMALL EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT SUPPORTS PROGRAM FUNDED BY THE CITY OF BOSTON'S OFFICE OF JOBS AND COMMUNITY SERVICES THROUGH A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT. A PART-TIME RE-HOUSING, EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST OFFERS ASSISTANCE HOMELESS FAMILIES WHO ARE NOT OTHERWISE ENGAGED IN EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT.
