TO PROVIDE CONTINUOUS, HIGH QUALITY ENGLISH EDUCATION AND OTHER SUSTAINABILITY SERVICES TO THE UNDERSERVED IN RURAL CAMBODIA, AS WELL AS TO NURTURE AND TRANSFORM HEARTS OF ALL INVOLVED.

FREE ENGLISH LESSONS: DAILY ENGLISH CLASSES WERE PROVIDED TO 2800 STUDENTS IN 7 RURAL CAMBODIAN VILLAGES (BANAN, JEEPAN,KAMPONG PUOY, RATTINAK, ROKA, SAMLOT, SAMRANG). IN ADDITION ENGLISH TRAINING WAS PROVIDED TO ALL 41 LOCAL TEACHING STAFF. APPROXIMATELY 800 UNPAID INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATED IN HELPING TEACH WRITING, READING, LISTENING, SPEAKING, GRAMMAR AND PHONICS.
FOOD AND MEDICAL AID: APPROXIMATELY 6400 FAMILIES (ABOUT 16,000 INDIVIDUALS) WERE PROVIDED RICE. MANY ALSO WERE PROVIDED ADDITIONAL FOOD - CANNED FISH, FISH SAUCE AND SOY SAUCE. THE SCALE OF FOOD AID PROVIDED IN 2021 WAS ABOUT 5X THAT OF A NORMAL YEAR AND EVEN HIGHER THAN IN 2020 DUE TO EXTREME CONDITIONS EXACERBATED BY PROLONGED COVID AND A DROUGHT. FOOD AID PROVIDED IN 2021 WAS $210,150 VS. $158,906 IN 2020. IN ADDITION, 10 PERSONS WERE GIVEN MEDICAL AID. TASSEL TEACHERS TOOK THE SICK TO APPROPRIATE DOMESTIC MEDICAL CENTERS AND PAID FOR THEIR HOSPITAL BILLS AS WELL AS TRAVEL AND MEAL EXPENSES. IN NORMAL YEARS THOSE WITH SERIOUS ILLNESSES ARE TAKEN TO THAILAND FOR DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT. HOWEVER, DUE TO COVID THE THAI BORDER HAS REMAINED CLOSED SINCE EARLY 2020 AND TASSEL COULD NOT ADDRESS THOSE WITH SERIOUS ILLNESSES IN 2021. FOR THIS REASON, MEDICAL AID PROVIDED IN 2021 WAS $6,354 VS $18,535 IN 2020. AS IN ALL YEARS, ALL PERSONS WHO RECEIVED FOOD AND MEDICAL AID IN 2021 WERE PRE-SCREENED CAREFULLY THROUGH FAMILY VISITS AND CONFIRMED BEFOREHAND THAT AID WAS CRITICAL.
CHILDREN AND FAMILY SPONSORSHIPS: 41 FAMILIES (160 PERSONS) WERE PROVIDED MONTHLY CASH SUPPORT BY SPECIFIC SPONSORS. CASH WAS HAND-DELIVERED MONTHLY AND PICTURES OF THE EACH DELIVERY WERE PROVIDED TO EACH SPONSORING DONOR. SOME SPONSORS ALSO PROVIDED EXTRA FOOD SUPPORT DUE TO HEIGHTENED FOOD NEEDS BROUGHT ON BY COVID. SPONSORED FAMILIES ARE THE POOREST AMONG TASSEL'S AID RECIPIENTS AND WERE SELECTED THROUGH EXTENSIVE INTERVIEWS. THEIR SITUATION IS REVIEWED MONTHLY THROUGH VISITS.
