Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

THIS PAST YEAR PEGASUS CONTINUED ITS WORK AS A LEGAL RESOURCE FOR CHILDREN, YOUTH AND THEIR CAREGIVERS, AND THE COMMUNITY CONCERNING THE LEGAL RIGHTS AND NEEDS OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH.SPECIFICALLY, WE CONTINUED OUR COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING THE RIGHTS OF NATIVE AMERICAN CHILDREN. IN ADDITION TO REPRESENTING CHILDREN IN THE SPECIALIZED INDIAN CHILD WELFARE ACT (ICWA), PEGASUS EXPANDED OUR REPRESENTATION OF CHILDREN TO THE PUEBLOS OF LAGUNA, ZUNI, SANTA ANA AND ISLETA. ADDITIONALLY, WE JOINED OVER 30 OF OUR COLLEAGUES NATIONALLY TO SIGN AN AMICUS BRIEF TO THE SUPREME COURT IN SUPPORT OF PROTECTING ICWA AND THE RIGHTS OF NATIVE AMERICAN FAMILIES.ADDITIONALLY, WE SAW A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE FOR LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR KINSHIP GUARDIANSHIP, AS WELL AS EMANCIPATION REQUESTS. THIS IS PRIMARILY DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC LEAVING CHILDREN ORPHANED. WE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE REPRESENTATION TO YOUTH STRUGGLING WITH HOMELESSNESS, MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, AND OTHER RELATED ISSUES, AS WELL AS YOUNG PARENTS. WE SERVED OVER 1,500 INDIVIDUALS IN FY23. FINALLY, WE CONTINUE TO PARTNER WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF CHILDREN IN NEW MEXICO.
