THE HURON AREA CENTER FOR INDPENDENCE IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING QUALITY, OUTCOME-BASED SERVICES TO PERSONS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. CENTRAL TO THIS PHILOSOPHY IS DISCOVERING EACH PERSON'S UNIQUE GOALS AND THE INSTRUCTING SERVICES TO SUPPORT THEM CLOSER TO ACHIEVING THESE GOALS. THE AGENCY BELIEVES THE INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM PROCESS IS THE BEST APPROACH IN MEETING THE DIVERSE NEEDS AND DESIRES OF THE PEOPLE SUPPORTED. THE TEAM IS MADE UP OF THE PERSON SUPPORTED WITH SOME OR ALL THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE: GUARDIAN OR PARENTS, LEAD INSTRUCTOR, AND OTHER AGENCY STAFF. IT IS THE TEAM'S RESPONSBILITY TO COLLECTIVELY DEVELOP A COMPREHENSIVE PERSONALIZED ENHANCEMENT PLAN DESIGNED TO ASSIST AND SUPPORT THE PERSON TO ACHIEVE HIS/HER PERSONAL GOALS. SUPPORTING PEOPLE IN REALIZING THEIR GOALS INCLUDING ENCOURAGING INDEPENDENT DECISION-MAKING AND SELF-ADVOCACY. 176 PEOPLE RECEIVE 1/2 TO 24 HOURS OF SERVICES INCLUDING RESIDENTIAL, DAY, VOCATIONAL, EMPLOYMENT, MEDICAL, ETC. CONSUMERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES IN THE COMMUNITY OF THEIR CHOICE AND SUPPORT IS PROVIDED TO DO SO.
