TO PROMOTE TAPPEN PARK AS A VIABLE VENUE FOR POSITIVE COMMUNITY ARTS, CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND EVENTS. THE ORGANIZATION SEEKS TO ENCOURAGE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE INVESTMENT FOR THE CONTINIOUS STRUCTURAL AND OVERALL BEAUTIFICATION OF TAPPEN PARK, AND IS COMMITTED TO MAKE TAPPEN PARK A PLACE-MAKING PUBLIC SPACE THAT HELPS SPUR POSITIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOOD TO PROMOTE A HEALTHIER, MORE SOCIAL AND ECONOMICALLY VIABLE COMMUNITY.

DURING 2019 HISTORIC TAPPEN PARK CONTINUED ITS FOCUS ON ITS BUILDING URBAN INNOVATIVE YOUTH THROUGH LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (B.U.I.L.D) YOUTH PROGRAM. B.U.I.L.D. WAS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN STATEN ISLAND, AND PROVIDES A PATHWAY FOR UNEMPLOYED, LOW-INCOME YOUTH (BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18 -24) AN OPPORTUNITY TO RECLAIM THEIR EDUCATION, GAIN THE SKILLS THEY NEED FOR EMPLOYMENT, AND BECOME LEADERS IN REBUILDING AND SHAPING THEIR COMMUNITIES. DURING 2019 THIS PROGRAM WAS FUNDED BY A GRANT FROM THE US DEPARTMENT OF LABOR. THE PROGRAM INTEGRATES EDUCATION, JOB TRAINING, LEADERSHIP, TRAVEL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE TO HELP YOUNG ADULTS REALIZE THEIR POTENTIAL, WHILE ALSO BENEFITING THE COMMUNITY. THE COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM MODEL INCLUDES FIVE BROAD AREAS: EDUCATION, VOCATIONAL TRAINING, COUNSELING AND CASE MANAGEMENT, LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY SERVICE, AND CAREER/GRADUATE SERVICES. THE PROGRAM IS A PRE-APPRENTICE PROGRAM THAT GIVES ITS STUDENTS THE ABILITY TO EARN INDUSTRY-RECOGNIZED CREDENTIALS FOR IN-DEMAND OCCUPATIONS AND UNDERGO TRAINING TO BUILD AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. B.U.I.L.D. BRINGS IN QUALIFIED AND TOP INDUSTRY SPECIALISTS AND TRAINERS THAT ARE FOCUSED ON INCORPORATING REAL WORLD EXPERIENCES TO HELP TRANSFORM YOUNG LIVES.
