GREENER PARTNERS' MISSION IS TO BUILD HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES THROUGH FOOD, FARMS AND EDUCATION.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
FOOD AS MEDICINE SUITE OF PROGRAMS:OUR HEALTHCARE PROGRAMS UTILIZE GARDENING, FOOD ACCESS, AND EDUCATION TO IMPROVE HEALTH. WE OPERATE DEAVER FARM, ONE OF THE NATION'S FIRST HOSPITAL-BASED FARMS, AT LANKENAU MEDICAL CENTER IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY. WE GROW 5,000 POUNDS OF PRODUCE ANNUALLY THAT IS DISTRIBUTED TO OVER 1,300 OF THE HOSPITAL'S NEEDIEST PATIENTS WHO HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED BY FOOD INSECURITY SCREENINGS. WE ALSO WORK IN HEALTH CLINICS IN WEST PHILADELPHIA, CHESTER, AND NORRISTOWN, OFFERING FREE PRODUCE AND NUTRITION EDUCATION AT APPOINTMENTS TO LINK DIET AND HEALTH. DUE TO COVID - SOME PROGRAMS WERE DONE ONLINE.
FARM EXPLORER SUITE OF PROGRAMS:THE FARM EXPLORER IS A MOBILE FARM AND FOOD EDUCATION PROGRAM THAT ENGAGES YOUTH IN HANDS-ON DISCOVERY ABOUT HOW PRODUCE IS GROWN. LAUNCHED IN 2013, WE SERVE 5,000 PEOPLE ANNUALLY IN THE 5-COUNTY REGION, 80% OF WHOM QUALIFY FOR FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH. PARTICIPANTS HARVEST, COOK, AND TASTE SEASONAL VEGETABLES AND FRUITS - OFTEN FOR THE FIRST TIME. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT HELPING CHILDREN DEVELOP HEALTHY EATING HABITS EARLY IN LIFE MAY LEAD TO HEALTHIER BEHAVIORS THAT LAST A LIFETIME. DUE TO COVID - SOME PROGRAMS WERE DONE ONLINE.
HEALTHY SCHOOLS PROJECTWE BELIEVE ALL PEOPLE DESERVE NOURISHING FOOD, AND ACCESSING IT IN YOUR OWN COMMUNITY SHOULD BE A RIGHT NOT A PRIVILEGE. SINCE 2016, OUR HEALTHY SCHOOLS PROJECT MODEL HAS STRENGTHENED FRESH FOOD RESOURCES IN CHESTER, NORRISTOWN, AND WEST PHILADELPHIA, THROUGH FREE PRODUCE DISTRIBUTIONS, HANDS-ON SEED-TO-PLATE EDUCATION IN THE CLASSROOM AND AFTER-SCHOOL, AND BOUNTIFUL SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY GARDENS.
