THE MISSION OF THE AWBURY ARBORETUM ASSOCIATION IS TO PRESERVE AND INTERPRET AWBURY'S HISTORIC HOUSE AND LANDSCAPE, THEREBY CONNECTING AN URBAN COMMUNITY WITH NATURE AND HISTORY.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
OPERATION OF NATURE, ENVIRONMENTAL AND AGRICULTURAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. MORE THAN 10,000 CHILDREN FROM INNER CITY NEIGHBORHOODS VISIT THE ARBORETUM AND PARTICIPATE IN OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND CAMPS EACH YEAR. OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOCUS ON ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY AND AWARENESS, AND OFFER CHILDREN AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT SUCH CONCEPTS AS ADAPTAION, HABITATS, DECOMPOSITION, WETLANDS AND FOOD PRODUCTION.
OPERATION AND PRESERVATION OF A 56 ACRE PUBLIC GARDEN AND THE FRANCIS COPE HOUSE.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: WE MAKE A CONCERTED EFFORT TO HAVE AWBURY ARBORETUM SEEN AS A HUB FOR COMMUNITY EVENTS AND PROGRAMS THAT WILL ENCOURAGE THE COMMUNITY'S USE AND APPRECIATION OF THE ARBORETUM. THE ARBORETUM IS AVAILABLE FOR COMMUNITY MEETINGS AND SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
