Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
KONEKTE IS A 501(C3) ORGANIZATION, STARTED IN 2012, DEDICATED TO EDUCATION AND TO IMPROVING THE LIVES OF CHILDREN AND THEIR COMMUNITIES THROUGH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND LONG TERM PARTNERSHIPS WITH SCHOOLS AND ORPHANAGES IN THE REGION OF GANTHIER, HAITI.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AT " COLLEGE MIXTE MARIUS CARNOLD" SCHOOL:A SCHOOL WITH 700 STUDENTS FROM PRESCHOOL TO 12 GRADE IN FOND PARISIEN IN THE GANTHIER AREA.OUR PARTNERSHIP STARTED IN 2012 AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE. IN 12 YEARS THE STUDENT BODY GREW FROM 80 TO AROUND 700 STUDENTS IN 2023. OBJECTIVES: WE SEND FUNDS TO PAY TEACHER SALARIES AND STAFF. IF THERE IS A PAID TEACHER IN THE CLASSROOM, STUDENTS CAN RECEIVE AN EDUCATION FOR FREE. THIS ALLOWS STUDENTS TO GO TO SCHOOL REGARDLESS THEIR ABILITY TO PAY THE TUITION. IN 2023, WE INCREASED THE SALARY AMOUNT BECAUSE OF THE INCREASE OF FOOD AND GAS COST IN HAITI. A TEACHER EARNS AROUND $300 PER MONTH. IN 2023 KONEKTE ALSO SENT FUNDS TO REPAIR PART OF THE SCHOOL BUILDING THAT A HURRICANE HAD DESTROYED ( ROOF...), AND TO FINISH THE TEACHERS' S HOUSING.
STARTED UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS: WE JUST HELP FIND TEACHERS WHO ARE VOLUNTEERS AND OFFER CLASSES THROUGH VIRTUAL CONFERENCES.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AT "COLLEGE MIXTE LA RÉFÉRENCE DE GANTHIER" SCHOOL: PARTNERSHIP SINCE 2013 AT THE CREATION OF THE SCHOOL WITH 2 CLASSES IN 2013 ( 40 STUDENTS IN 7TH AND 8TH GRADE). OVER THE YEARS, KONEKTE SENT FUNDS TO BUILD A NEW SCHOOL CAMPUS, IN TWO PHASES, ADDING 12 MORE CLASSROOMS TO THE 6 CLASSROOMS ALREADY BUILT IN 2019. THIS ALLOWS THE SCHOOL TO OPEN PRESCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CLASSES AND A LIBRARY, A SMALL CAFETERIA. IN OCTOBER 2023, THE SCHOOL HAD AROUND 800 STUDENTS. KONEKTE ALSO SENT FUNDS TO BUY COMPUTERS, TO FUND TEACHER TRAINING IN THE SUMMER, TO BUY SOLAR PANELS AND BATTERIES TO ENABLE THE SCHOOL NOT TO DEPEND ON HAITIAN SERVICES. BECAUSE OF THE VERY VIOLENT SITUATION WITH GANGS KIDNAPPING AND ROBBING PEOPLE, PARENTS DO NOT HAVE JOBS AND CAN NOT PAY THE VERY MINIMUM SCHOOL TUITION. KONEKTE DECIDED TO SEND SOME FUNDS TO HELP PAY TEACHERS WHEN THE TUITIONS COULD NOT LONGER COVER THE COSTS, AND TO COVER TEACHER TRAINING WEEKS.THE SCHOOL IS OFFERING THE BEST EDUCATION IN THE AREA IN A BEAUTIFUL ENVIRONMENT FAVORABLE TO LEARNING. THE SCHOOL RECEIVED HIGHEST AWARDS FOR SENSITIVITY TO EDUCATIONAL MISSION, TO COMMUNITY AND SUSTAINABILITY. ALSO THE SCHOOL WAS ONE OF THE VERY FEW ( THE OTHER ONE WAS THE OTHER SCHOOL KONEKTE IS SUPPORTING), REMAINING OPEN IN THE AREA DESPITE EVERYTHING HAPPENING. STUDENTS FIND A SAFE PLACE TO GO AND TO LEARN. KONEKTE ALSO SENT FUNDS FOR THE SCHOOL TO BUY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.
KONEKTE SENT FUNDS TO ALLOW CHILDREN FROM LA MAISON D'ENFANTS ORPHANAGE TO GO TO SCHOOL. SPONSORS SEND $650 PER YEAR TO ALLOW ONE CHILD TO GO TO LA RÉFÉRENCE SCHOOL. IN 2023, KONEKTE DECIDED TO SPONSOR THE 40 KIDS LIVING IN THE ORPHANAGE. THE FUNDS WE SEND ARE USED TO PAY SCHOOL TUITION, UNIFORMS, SHOES, AND BOOKS. THE ORPHANAGE AND KONEKTE SEND REGULAR UPDATES ABOUT THE WORK AND GRADES AND ACTIVITIES THE CHILDREN ARE DOING.
