Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
TRAILS UTAH IS AN ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO TRAILS ADVOCACY, PLANNING, FUNDING AND BUILDING IN NEEDED AREAS THROUGHOUT UTAH.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE POPULAR RATTLESNAKE GULCH TRAIL NEAR THE MOUTH OF MILLCREEK CANYON ABOVE SALT LAKE CITY'S EAST BENCH WAS REROUTED. THE NEW ALIGNMENT MITIGATES DEGRADATION AND EROSION OF THE GULLY. IT ALSO CREATES A SAFER AND MORE ENJOYABLE TRAIL EXPERIENCE FOR A MIX OF HIKERS, DOG WALKERS AND MOUNTAIN BIKERS. TRAILS UTAH WORKED WITH ITS PARTNERS TO IMPROVE, REDESIGN AND REROUTE THIS BUSY TRAIL. THE SALT LAKE RANGER DISTRICT AND PROFESSIONAL TRAIL DESIGNERS IDENTIFIED THE NEW TRAIL ALIGNMENT. THE PROJECT WAS FUNDED BY SALT LAKE COUNTY. NATURE TRAILS CONSTRUCTED THE TRAIL.
THE PARLEY'S POINTE/BONNEVILLE SHORELINE TRAIL IS AN ADDITIONAL EXTENSION OF THE BONNEVILLE SHORELINE TRAIL ALONG SALT LAKE CITY'S EAST BENCH NORTH OF THE MOUTH OF PARLEY'S CANYON. THE PROJECT CONSISTS OF A LOOP TRAIL AT THE NORTHERN EDGE OF THE MOUTH OF PARLEY'S CANYON AND A NEARLY THREE-MILE TRAIL NORTHWARD ABOVE EXISTING HOMES TO THE PUBLIC ACCESS POINT AT H ROCK OPEN SPACE AREA. THIS PROJECT HAS THE SUPPORT OF THE EAST BENCH COMMUNITY COUNCIL, THE BONNEVILLE SHORELINE COMMUNITY AND SALT LAKE CITY PARKS AND PUBLIC LANDS. THE SALT LAKE CITY TRAILS AND NATURAL LANDS DEPARTMENT WILL TAKE OWNERSHIP, MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE TRAIL.
THE UPPER MILLCREEK/GREAT WESTERN TRAIL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IS LOCATED IN MILLCREEK CANYON JUST OUTSIDE OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH'S EAST BENCH. THIS IS AN ON-GOING PROJECT MARKED BY THE COMPLETION OF A THREE-MILE SEGMENT WHICH LINKS TRAILHEADS MID-CANYON AT ELBOW FORK AND SEVERAL TRAILS ACCESSED FROM THE BIG WATER TRAILHEAD AT THE TOP END OF THE CANYON. THE TRAIL ALLOWS MOUNTAIN BIKERS, RUNNERS AND HIKERS TO MOVE THROUGH THE UPPER CANYON AWAY FROM THE NARROW MILLCREEK CANYON ROAD. PREVIOUSLY, THE ONLY WAY TO GET BETWEEN THE BIG WATER TRAILHEAD AND THE ELBOW FORK AREA WAS ON THE DANGEROUS CANYON ROAD. THE PROJECT IS APPROVED BY THE SALT LAKE RANGER DISTRICT OF THE US FOREST SERVICE, FUNDED BY SALT LAKE COUNTY AND BUILT BY APEX TRAIL CONSTRUCTION. TRAILS UTAH GUIDED THE PROJECT THROUGH THE FUNDING, TRAIL DESIGN, NEPA STUDIES AND CONSTRUCTION PROCESS. THE TRAIL IS COMPLETE.
